Don Quixote,
As you sit in your door room on The Lawn, why don't you tell the audience why Vigilante is better than Dunn. I'll grant you that Dunn walked into a pretty good situation at Stanford, as did Vigilante at UVA.
It seems like the men's team is perhaps a little worse under Vig than Dunn.

I'm not going to try to rank them, but the SE Region is the home of not one, but 3 great young coaches. Gibby at W&M, Vig at UVA, and Allen at Louisville.
UVA beat duke at accs by 2-3 points... not really a shocking loss
Here's a thought. Take Catherine White, who transferred to UVA this fall, out of the results and see where UVA's women finish. Vig is a lucky SOB that she transferred.
Vig is why she transferred. Thats not luck.
if vig was a great coach, he wouldn't have stockpiles of footlocker talent running like dogshit right now. as far as i can tell, vig is a good manager of talent in the middle distances. as for developing kids in the longer distances... i think the results today prove my point.
"manager of talent in the middle distances"- hlarious. the guy coached 5 penn relays team championships in 3 years, was the first EVER coach to have the individual ncaa champ in the 800 and 1500 in the same year that were no the same runner, his guys were 1,2 in the indoor ncaa champs mile, they have a WORLD RECORD, etc etc etc.
theres no excues for this years results but calling vig just a good "manger of talent" is a joke. Hell, he beat arkansas to win penn in the d-med with 4 texans!

Vig is a good coach, I don't think there is doubt about that. I would say his record indicates he is much stronger on the track in the middle distances then on the XC course or 5k-10k. That's not an indictment. I hope he proves me wrong.
Well lets look at Vig's results in races above 1500.
Last Year
Collins 13:52
Emil: 14:02
Tribble: 14:08
Miller: 14:10
Keveren: 14:12
Finley: 8:42 steeple
In years past Vig has coached plenty of sub 850 steeplers, including Jake Morse who was 4th at the oly trials
1) Who cares about Vigilante?
2) Did they take splits on the course? are they posted anywhere?
want to rethink that wrote:

DANG SON!!! O Snap you went the distance with that one! The truth hurts! I agree with you sir, Vigs can't develop runners he only grabs footlocker/top notch guys and continues there ability where they left off in HS. He doesn't know how to take average to slightly above average runners and turn them into studs. Fact: This has never happened! Good coaches are able to do this. Anyone can take a kid who has incredible talent and give them workouts, let em loose, and race. It takes a great coach to develop a kid from being mediocre into a stud.
Something that no one has mentioned yet is that UNC was the first team in the Southeast Region out of making nationals. Obviously they had no points and wouldn't have gone even if they had finished ahead of UVA, but it is an interesting turn around nonetheless. This looks like a huge improvement for the men's program this year. Should be an interesting regional in the future once UNC's men's program reaches full strength. Might be the best region besides the West, and will be for sure in a year or two.

with a lineup like that, why are they losing to duke? and don't even tell me duke ran well. they only had one kid all region.
what did these guys run the year before for dunn?
Duke had runners come in at 26, 27, & 28, barely missing all-region.
Really!? Is that due to all of the success that he has had with women in his coaching career? Let me answer the question posed. UVA women would have been @186 points or so and probably in 6th place behind UNC.
Vig is not a bad coach (but certainly not deserving of all the hype - great recruiter) but he is a totall a hole
what did UVA do at all to make people think they were so good? they ran at george mason and at home twice. once they beat syracuse while racing at home in what was basically a dual meet.
i don't see the big "upset." everyone knew W&M and NC State would be top 2, as they've been for a decade. The only real surprise was that W&M didn't blow up.
I'm not sure why, but people seem to really be hating virginia. But either way, it looks like Virginia will get into NCAAs. They'll place top 10-15 probably. They beat Syracuse, Villanova, and Duke at their home meet, where their 5 man average was equal to the previous course record held by Itay Magidi (not a slouch). That is why they were hyped up big time. That, and their track performances from last spring.
Come track season though, I imagine all those hating will have very little to say.
I think the hate, from some people anyway, comes from when Vig took over everyone was saying "okay...NOW Virginia will start being good" His XC success thus far and his tie for the ACC Outdoor title had more to do with Dunn and Bungard (and assistants) than it did with Vig. I agree he is a good coach but people on here are, many times, clueless about programs and coaches. Vig will do well, but it takes time.
