First K split was 2:54. On that course, it is suicide. They should have known better on their home course about how to pace it properly. No surprise they blew up.

Plenty of teams went out at that pace and didn't fall apart. 2:54 for your first k is not to rough even on that course.
Way to go Sycamores!! 4th place! We gotta hope that Butler has enough points to push Indiana State into the National meet as a team for the 1st time!
I'm not sure if Butler has done enough to earn the points needed for an at-large. They didn't have a good day at pre-nats. The Great Lake region might just have the 2 auto teams going this year.
Michigan State was 8th at Big Tens and now 2nd at regional and making NCs. Thats crazy.
With ISU only 7 points behind Ohio State maybe they'll take them both and only take 4 from the Great Lakes? I know realistically they may only decide to take 2, but ISU has never been to the NCAA meet, so hopefully they have some points too, someone will figure this out soon enough on here.

When you feel like you are contending for a top 2 spot at regionals do you want them to go out in 50th?
Look at the west region. A couple K into the race Oregon's score was in the 30's and Portland's was in the 200's. Didn't seem to hurt them too badly.
I think they're only taking 2.
Who has Butler beat this year? They were terrible at pre-nats.
Who has ISU beat? They get points over Michigan State but who doesn't. They also get points over Southern Illinois but 2 isn't enough to get in. Virginia would have pulled Duke in before ISU would be getting in.
You don't get points over a team that gets pushed in. Iowa pushes So Ill (if that is even correct -- remains to be seen)
SO top 2 go to ncaa automaticly. Will Ohio State go?
In all the talk on the message boards, I don't think ANYONE predicted Michigan STate for 2nd in this region. I saw IU, OSU, Butler, and even Michigan mentioned for 2nd behind wisco. MICH STATE?! I'm surprised, but good for those guys. It must feel nice when no one gives you the respect, to come up and get the auto qualifier.
Good job to ISU for 4th, too.
And what the hell happned to IU-8th, Michigan-10th, Butler-5th, Dayton-13th? I had all finishing a good bit higher.
Kent State had a nice showing in 6th, even though a couple of the guys look like they could have ran a little better. Still, proud of those guys, especially after being ranked 9th or 10th all year in the Great Lakes region.

It hurts seeing them perform this way because I know they have some good guys. Hubers and Weatherford being hurt and unable to run doesn't help their cause but they still had the talent to make it happen. Bayer also went down during the race. Hardacre wiped out also. It's kind of funny to think about the hoosiers falling all over their own course but I have sympathy for them and I know they'll be back.
Sympathy my ass. They have the talent, the scholarships, thendepth, and a home course, and they still f*** it up, again. As someone else said, too much speed too early, and not enough strength. It may work for girls running 6K, but it's not going to work for guys running 10K.
If OSU makes it, I think it's great their coach tries to have a balanced track team almost exclusively of home-state men and can still manage to make the dance in cross country! Showed up big at conference and then at Regionals.
Jeff See remains a beast
Very nice job by Kent State men and the Toledo women.
Kent ran an average race at regionals but it was good not to see them blow up like Dayton did. This region stinks though - good god.
These results for the Women are very painful for me to look at. Ohio state and Wisconsin traded places this year.

BOTH Buckeye cc teams make it to Nationals. Let the bashing begin about how they should and continue to excuse other schools with way more "talent" sitting at home (Indiana, Michigan, NC State women, and others)
Look what two weeks can do!
Notre Dame finishes 6th at Big East with 160 points, 52 points behind 5th Place Providence. WINS Great Lakes
Ohio State finishes 8th at the Big Ten meet with 164 points and is second at the Great Lakes to make Nationals.
Michigan State score 188 points to finish 8th at the Big Ten, 97 points behind Ohio State and come back at Regionals to finish 2nd beating Ohio State who also qualifies in third.
