Basically they listed the title of a song and you had to name the pop culture diva that sang it.
i.e. "Poker Face" -- Lady Gaga
"Disturbia" -- Rihanna
The other players must be pissed. I know I am for them.
Jeopardy frequently has pop culture categories, though usually a little less pop than mainstream radio hits. Whatever though. If the others were such nerds they didn't know who sang those songs, they need to get out more.

The girl that ended in 3rd answered "sled" which is a word more snowmobile. That should of at least been a "more specific" by Alex.

No, I'm not. Lady Gaga and Rihanna are two of the most iconic pop artists right now, and "Poker Face" and "Umbrella" are the biggest hits of their careers. Missing questions about either artist and/or song for a modern youth would be like missing a question on Michael Jackson and "Beat it." You can be smart and educated without locking yourself up in a study 20 hours a day.

Maybe the other contestants have a decent taste in music and don't like listening to noise. (I don't think I know Umbrella and I do like Rihanna's voice, so I can't really comment on that song, but Poker Face is such a horrifically bad song).
Jeopardy isn't exactly an intelligence contest, though, so I'm curious as to why anyone would freak out about this.

i get out plenty, but i sure as shit don't listen to pop radio or watch MTV. I only would know "poker face" because of my wife, I and don't know what song "umbrella" is.

Whether you listen to it or not (I listen to a lot of music, most of which is NOT pop btw), you'd have to be horribly out of touch with pop culture to not know these things. If you've watched pretty much ANY MTV, VH1, E!, Comedy Central, turned on a radio, taken a glimpse at the weeklies while standing in line at the grocery store, or visited youtube in the last two years, you should know these things. I've heard that shit played in bars, stores, resturaunts... There's almost no way to get away from it. I suppose you've never heard of Kanye West or Lil Wayne either?
Guppy you are right. People love to be pretentious on this site. Pop culture just happens to be an important thing for Jeopardy contestants to know and a relevant part of cultural literacy.
And Lady Gaga happens to be an immensely talented musical genius, by the way.

This was teen Jeopardy (or so it was stated above). Those are appropriate questions for teenagers. The names of those artists fall under general pop culture knowledge. You can't be asking these kids about Yo La Tengo or some shit. That is too narrow.
