I saw a link on good old KickSports I think, before it was bought out by CoolRunning and then Active.

I was googling my college roommate to see if there might be a good history of his career now up on the internet since it had been around awhile.
Ergo, Google showed me to this cesspool.

Anton Krupicka called letsrun.com the "center of all running discourse on the web" on his DVD, and said that ultrarunning gets no respect there. So, I had to check it out.
that guy's whole gimmick has gotten pretty old
Used to be that
was the place to find incoherent trolls and trash talking....and the T-And-F list at U Oregon was the place for educated running discussions. The T-and-F list was my first "internet" experience...but it wasn't really the internet, more of a communication terminal. Can't remember the name..VAXstation perhaps? Anyway, it was my first college "e-mail".
Somewhere down the road RunGroteSchief became TandFMedia and Letsrun came into existance around the same time. Letsrun used to be a place for educated running discussions and TandFMedia was the trolls and trash.
Well TandFMedia went the way of the dodo and the trash had to come somewhere.
I remember when the message board format was just a 'waterfall cascade.

I was browsing the forums over at slowtwitch.com, and occaisionally someone would link to a thread here. So when I decided to get more serious about running, I started lurking here.
But then I realized this is the last place for new runners to come, so I now I'm here for the entertainment.
I see they used to have user profiles.

when the tnfmedia.com board was done, everyone went over to letsrun.com.... was that cerca 2000? 1999 maybe? Somewhere around there. I was in college when it started.
At the same time a few other sites and even some message boards were born but i don't think they lasted.
I forget, either my teammate told me about it, or I just found it on the internet
I was spectating/taking pictures at the Chicago Marathon in 2001. Rojo was running and I saw this fast guy wearing a LR.com singlet. Went home and the rest is history.
I went on Google looking for a running forum to get some advice for a marathon I was about to race. Been hooked since.
It's strange to think about, but LetsRun has changed my life in many ways. Before LetsRun I knew nothing about professional runners, didn't know much about proper training and listened to crappy music.
Your case is pretty dramatic as you became a sort of letsrun celebrity...isn't that how you found your bf, moved to another state, and started your writing career? You owe pretty much everything to letsrun, for better or for worse :-)
You know, it's funny because I don't even remember. I stumbled across this website when I was a high school junior or senior back in 2001-2002. Back then, no one had heard of it. I told a few high school buddies about it and about JK's 4 principles of correct training and I started to think I need to increase my mileage (at the time I was only doing 40mpw) to become a better runner. Low and behold, he was right.
One of my high school buddies said he went to letrun.com (after I recommended it to him) but said the site looks like crap. I think he said this because he didnt spend any time looking at content and just saw the OLD SCHOOL pixelated letsrun.com logo with stories scattered all over the FRONT PAGE haha.
A friend posted a thread about me on my facebook wall. Being egocentric, I checked it out. Been wasting time here ever since.
Edmund Burke told me about it when I lived in Bethesda...that bastard!

Which just goes to show that if you waste enough time here, your dreams might become reality. I'm still holding out for my Olympic gold medal, Nobel Prize, Corvette, mansion, vacation to Europe and pet Unicorn, so LetsRu better be around for the next couple of years.
*LetsRun
Typos are a side effect.
Well said :)
Hope all is well with you--I enjoyed your articles.

And you did not know runners could be such frapping assoles?
I found it on a running blog, I think it was the track superfan blog. Letsrun has come a long way, trackshark was good too in it's day. Bubbling under and fast becoming a favorite of mine for track and field tidbits with some great content is http://runzoom. There is also the long running track and field news site but I just mostly read the boards there.
