Pat Porter is a top XC specialist, a rare breed. He is surprisingly good over muddy courses, despite his slight build.
Virgin has to be there as a 2X winner, ran well on mud or turf.
Rodgers has to be there for his bronze medal, though he was better on a non-muddy courses. He led the breakaway from the pack, and was outkicked in the last 100 meters by Ian Stewart and Mario Haro.
I am sure there other Americans we have overlooked who worked very hard to compete at WXC, and we should do them justice by researching the question more thoroughly.
...gotta be kidding - Pre was a FROSH! What happened after that? PRE!
Twill has to be one of the best cc runners from US. 95 was a sick year!
idk about that . . . wrote:
Shorter didn't do anything in XC, no way is he on my list. Kennedy and Eyestone can be swapped if you ask me, Lindgren too.
As others have pointed out, Shorter won Nationals four times in a row. In the course of doing that, he would often beat Prefontaine, who is on your list for some reason.
WHAT ABOUT BILLY MILLS??? The guy wins the gold medal and you don't even think about him! And Max Truax! What are you thinking???
Shorter never beat Pre in a xc race...in fact, they never competed in a xc race against each other.

Gary Tuttle? He was 7th at world cross! Goucher, Rupp, etc. haven't been close!

Can you provide some examples of that?
Porter finished in the top 10 3 times and is one of the greatest Xc runners the US has ever produced. Forget track and roads. he dominated Xc in the 80's.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
