no way. pass wxc for the bigger money races. all that matters is money.
Where is 2010 World XC?
2010 World X- Country Championships will be held in Poland.

Oh, great, so the races will probably be on an all-weather, air-inflated surface or something! Just kidding, I love the Poles.
Well I don't think running world cross is bad for getting ready for track. I mean Bekelee and Tadesea do it all the time and they are two of the best runners in the world and it doesn't stop Bekelee from winning every race he runs. Maybe Lagat should run worlds and he can get that half second he was lacking at the world champs this summer....
about time a thread concerning x-country has emerged. How well do you think the ladies could do if the top women like
Shalane Flangan
Kara Goucher
Jenny Barringer
Deena Drossin
Colleen DeRueck
Desiree Davila
Molly Huddle
Jen Rhines
Shannon Rowbury
Christine Wurth-Thomas
Emily Brown
Julie Cully
Tasmin Fanning
Brianne Felnagle
Kendraa Schaff
all commited and ran for spots for the 2010 World X-Country team?
This thread is a prolonged circle jerk.

Let me prolong it a little further.
A USA world x-c "dream team" will never happen because the US national champs calendar is crowded in February/March.
1. USA national x-c champs/trials.
2. USA national indoor champs.
3. USA national 15km road champs (Gate Rive Run???)
4. USA national 8km road champs (NYRR Central Park)
5. World Indoor Champs (only major TRACK champs of 2010).
6. Stanford (in April) is still crucial as an A/B standard qualifier...better to get the qualifier early.
Am I missing anything on the calendar? Remember, US only champs = US only $$$$. Abdi makes more $$$$ in Feb/Mar than the rest of the year combined.

when did a 15k road race in florida, a 5 miler in new york, or going to stanford to get an A or B standard become more prestigious than the world xc?
if you win world xc you are THEE MAN (OR WOMAN) in the sport of running, your appearance fees for marathons and road races i guess would dwarf the money one would get by winning SOME 15k in jacksonville and/or SOME 8k in central park (and that is what those 2 races are to elite runners around the world SOME RACE)
the world xc champs on the other hand is not just some race, it is the hardest to win and probably THEE RACE that will EARN you respect among the top runners from anywhere in the world.
as for getting the A standard at stanford, anyone who can compete for the win at world xc, it is a given they can get the A standard any day of the week, before breakfast if they want to.

When it started paying better, dumbfuck. Wake up and join the rest of the sport in the professional era. No American-born runner is going to win World XC, EVER. Get used to that fact.
Doug, I was pointing out that a US pro runner (like Abdi) would benefit more (career-wise) from winning US national champs (like Florida & New York) than from finishing 33rd at World X-C....even if 33rd was the better athletic performance.
My observation was based on modern reality.
NOTE - A lot of African runners are still ORDERED by their federation to compete at world x-c.....maybe even Kenny Bekele.
..yes, because Poland is a REAL DANGEROUS place to be at,
Poland is actually in Europe and not even the slightest bit more dangerous than lets say, the suburbs of Detroit..
Jeez...
I can name several runners who HAVE and could finished higher than 33rd at the World X-Country Championships:
Bernard Lagat
Dathan Ritzenhein
Abdi Abdirahman
Mebrahtom Keflizighi
Galen Rupp
Ryan Hall
Being mentioned as a team medalist carries some weight even if its only prestigous and mental in the world of athletics. Other competitors definitel respect individuals and teams that medal at the X-Country Championships.

He took bronze in a tight 1500m against two top young talents, and silver behind perhaps the greatest of all-time. And he's an old man. How much better could he have been?
also, Anna Willard
Lagat running World XC could be a good part of his converting to a full-time 5K runner in his quest to be the best.
Lomong's college XC exploit were fantastic. In a non-WC year it would be cool to explore those some more.
In college everyone ran XC without it "compromising" training for track titles. Why are they all afraid of cross now?
Who's this Lomong you speak of?

NCAA athletes all get paid the same amount no matter what. Personal and team satisfaction can take priority in amateur sports, while it's personal financial gain in the professional world.
Hogwash, they wouldn't be sacrifacing much as they would just miss indoors where there isn't huge finanical gains. The training from x-country would help them later in the year as it seems to do wonders for Kenenisa, Tadese, Linet M, Vivian C, Tirunesh etc.
Also I think being a medalist or team medalist would give them more bargining power when discussing their appearance fee for overseas meets. Which would you pay a higher appearance fee:
1. Athlete who won 1-2 indoor meets with decent times.
2. Athlete who won a medal in the indivdual World X
3. Atheltes who won team medal in World X
4. Athletes who won individual and team medal at World X
My guess is that #1 would be the least important when appearance fees for Golden League and GP circuit discuss appearance fees. PLUS the satisfication of knowing you and your teammates became the first U.S. team ever to grab silver and with a lot of luck- GOLD!
