Anyone notice formerly-frequent LRC poster R.L. Scribner finished 28th in 2:22:00?
And Chad Ware of Kara Goucher Chicago Rock-n-Roll HM/LRC thread fame finished 24th 2:20:45?
just thought i'd point those out

Why would you expect deeper representation at NYC? It's a crap marathon for running.

because it's the U.S. men's marathon championship...top 10/sub-2:22 gets you in.

You forgot to mention LARS JUHL the bandit of Kara Goucher Chicago Rock-n-Roll HM/LRC thread fame!!
Better provisions for US runners because it's the US champs this year. Airfare, hotel, meals for runners 2:19 and better, a separate US-only prize purse.
I'd say my brother Sergio did pretty f**cking good.
anywhere we can actually see the results for boston pre-2000? like 70s and 80s?
Tom Derderians book on the Boston Marathon has pretty extensive results. He usually covers top 20-30+other top U.S. runners in each Boston race, not complete results, but pretty close to it.
Props to Teage O'Connor for his 2:23, a three minute pr, after he lost most of the first six months of the year to a hip injury and couldn't do really high mileage or even hard training for a while after returning. He is a good bet to get under 2:20 next year if healthy.
Just out for a Sunday long run I guess.
JJ well done!

With the last two miles in 14:00!
Just went to Tom D's book--52 under 2:20 in 1979, 65 in 1981, and 85 in 1983--didn't break down American's, but I am guessing 85% to 90% were Americans.
So far 54 male qualifiers (my count) for 2012 Olympic Trials.---plus any past Olympic marathoners get a free pass although Hall, Ritz and Sell (2008) have qualified anyway as have Meb and Browne (2004).

What happened to Seth Pilkington? Anyone?
Pilkington went out too fast, thus why he dropped out. He was well ahead of Rizzo at the 12 mile point, where he looked strong, he just couldn't maintain. Hopefully he bounces back and can run a strong spring marathon.

look at the past 2 years. reults werent much better. Granted 2007 they had the trials a few weeks later. But last year wasnt much faster by the US men
I'm not sure 2007 or 2008 are accurate comparisons because of the heat.
I thought that Indiana Elite was going to have a couple guys running? Did they DNF or just not good enough to finish in the top 25.

He should sign up to run LA as a "pacemaker." Pretty good track record there I'd say.

33 Powers, Jeff H (USA) 31 25-29 25 01:09:18 02:22:55
Tell me that is not the same Jeff Powers that ran sub 29 minutes for 10k for CMU?
If so, just another 10k guy that can't run a marathon. Just like Schoolmeester and Pilkington.
Now that you have athleles running sub-2:05 marathons, I would think you need be sub-2:10 to call yourself an international elite and perhaps sub-2:15 to be a national elite. With that said, we only have about 4 world class elites and less than a dozen natioanal elites. We have a lot of professional marathoners in that 2:15 - 2:20 range, which strange becasue your average NCAA XC or 10K all-Amercians can run a 2:20 marathon with out specific marathon training.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
