you guys suck! 2:28 for 6th is pretty fu$kin' good! When did you ever run that you little pu$$y!

I believe that Deena will not run within 10 minutes of her stated goal. If that is the case then we know that the goal was 100% bull shit.
2:28 is an okay time. 3rd best american this year. Why would she say tthat she was shooting for a 2:18? She is now 100% hype. 30% of all of the letsrun numbnuts thought she would win. The lack of knowledge on this board is off the charts.
Or maybe, just maybe, some of us have better insight than you.

Well I guess I'll throw myself to the wolves here. You guys need to show a little repsect. when you've got a few AR's and an olympic medal then you can open your mouths. Until then shut the f*** up and show a little respect.

Try doing it as a woman.
Why should she hang up her flats if she's still running under 2:30?

I will give credit where credit is due. I'm just glad you didn't have to chop off your balls!
Right now she is the third best American women for the distance behind Goucher and Davila. I believe that she still has a chance to make the US Marathon team in 2012. But she does sound foolish when she claims 2:18 or another Olympic medal.
Keep in mind that her run today was her fastest run since 2006.

She really should retire. Nothing more to accomplish. Seems like a lot of runners on the downslope are having a hard time stepping away. Go while you're at the top. Plan for your future. Running is only a snapshot of life.
Why? She can still make a good amount of money for the next couple of years no matter what happens with her racing.
Bearing in mind back in the late 1970's it was confidently predicted that women would soon be routinely way under 2:20 if not competing with men, I still don't understand why the women plateau'd in the mid 80's and have been ho-hum forever since. To me there has not been one exciting prospect since Joanie. What happened? - you've NOT come a long way, baby.
I wouldn't be sure about what will or won't happen in 2012. Constantina Dita was 38 and very far from being the best runner in the Beijing Olympic field. Look what happened.
horse hockey - What's your name? I don't believe you ...........................fu$k WAD!
Dita hadn't seen a string of 2+ years of decline in the marathon prior to Beijing, either. I'm not among those who thinks that Deena should hang 'em up, yet over the next few years her cache in the marathon will dwindle below what it's worth in terms of what it takes to prepare and in terms of what she could be earning in prize money in 5K-25K racing instead of being immersed in a large block of marathon prep training. She could probably stay away from the marathon until the 2012 OT and make a great living. Like Radcliffe, however, her best days in the marathon are behind her. I still think she could make the team for London in the marathon, maybe even win the OT again, but that's more about the fact that she has few domestic challengers even in her decline in the marathon.
She may be able to make the 2012 team if she improves. I do not think that she will ever be ranked as the top American again.

Umm, ever heard of Paula Radcliffe? That 2:15:xx is going to be around for a long time.
Joan Benoit is the greatest Americam women's marathoner of all time and for all time. She was the pioneer. She kicked Norwegian butt when they dominated. She won the first Oly women's marathon, on home soil.
Please do not ever bash Joanie like you bash Deena. Go crawl under a rock you basher bastards.

I don't understand why you have hybernated since the mid 80's?

"back in the late 1970's it was confidently predicted that women would soon be routinely way under 2:20"
The original poster is correct in his statement. The point wasn't that the top times were from the 80s. 2:20 is nowhere near routinely broken as it once thought it would be. Only 8 women have done it. One in the last 3 years according to this list.
The list proved my point. 4th best ever is barely under 2:19?? I'm not saying they're not trying, I'm looking for reasons why they basically hit a wall at 2:19 except for one individual (OK Paula I apologize I'll put you up there with JB!)

Ummmm, because women are different from men? The Soviets (I think it was) did an in-depth study of the factors that separated women's performances from men's, and the most important single attribute in every event was strength--not size, blood, whatever, but strength.
Look, men and women are different. Women get to live longer and have babies; men are bigger, stronger, and smarter.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?

How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?

Red Bull (who sponsors Mondo) calls Mondo the pole vaulting Usain Bolt. Is that a fair comparison?
