Peter Kosgei of Division III Hamilton finishes 4th today in the Paul Short invite Gold race. This guy is unbelievably talented. I'm impressed.

How long till he is D-I?
That guy ran like a minute faster than the winner of the D-3 race, Ricky Flynn, who is certainly no slouch himself.
Also, Kosgei missed the win in the big race by like two seconds.

what's "the d3 race"? there were a few d3 teams in the gold race--e.g. cortland, allegheny, haverford, etc.
Yep, this guy is legit. Once again showing how D-3 can have some really talented athletes and excellent teams.
is this the fastest 8K XC time in D3 history?
Also, Mike Heymann of Plattsburgh ran very well in the Gold race...24:12...from Central NY, I believe. Has improved a ton in college.
Erik Van Ingen from SUNY Binghamton is another CNYer who placed well . . . 17th in 24:03.
You jerks! No one cares about those guys, read the thread title. This is Peter Kosgei's own thread!
Who cuts courses
St. Lawrence University was in there as well.
Kosgie also has a 8:40 Steeple to his credit, and a 1:48 800.
I may be off by a few seconds.

8:43 and 1:48.
Big deal, we get it he is good, But he is KENYAN.
yeah, a kenyan who ran 4:58 the only time he ever ran a mile before goign to Hamilton College. He had never trained for running or run truly competitively before attending college, where he went on an academic exchange program with no intention of participating in xc. The coach asked him if he would like to run. Its not like Hamilton is getting the best out of him either, lets be honest.
This guy went from like 16:30 5k to sub 9 in the steeple in ONE year
If he decides to run post collegiately and gets some real coaching, he could be sick
He ran a 4:58 with no training? I'd say he's pretty goddamned talented, regardless of his background.
yeah, exactly, he has a load of natural talent.
no one will argue his loads of talent
but the tone was that his being kenyan makes it unfair or something. There are soccer players in US high schools that occasionally step on a track and run sub 5. Doesn't happen a lot, but it happens.
Kosgei has done all of his training over 4 years in the United States with a low level d3 program. He has had no advantages, beyond talent (which white people ALSO have, sometimes, you'll notice), beyond the average d3 runner. he has made a lot of himself with limited resources, training, and background
he is not some kenyan ringer
I ran 4:56 in 8th grade in a basketball time-trial alone without ever running before, it's not that good for someone who hasn't trained.
BIG DEAL, FERNANDEZ COULD RUN SUB 4:40 WITHOUT TRAINING FOR TRACK!11!!!
Peter Kosgei feeds on fresh fetuses every week. Talent my right tittay!!
