Rojo -- please have Employee #1 amend his preview article as follows (changes in ALL CAPS):
"Break in the action. 4:20am Eastern time. If you set your alarm for that time Sunday morning, you'll have time to get up and turn on the computer, put on a pot of hot chocolate for your children and wife or your other housemates who will surely be eager to join you at such a pleasant hour, perhaps make some porridge, SEE THAT UNIVERSALSPORTS HAS DECIDED TO TAPE DELAY A MARATHON FOR ABSOLUTELY NO GOOD REASON, and CHECK THE LR MESSAGE BOARDS SO YOU CAN GET A HANDFUL OF UPDATES FROM THE FOUR PEOPLE IN GERMANY LUCKY ENOUGH TO watch the last 30-40 minutes of the fastest marathon in history on A CHANNEL OTHER THAN Universal Sports."
Oh well, I guess it wasn't Geb's day. Up next: Wanjiru in Chi-town!
Haile's post race interview: pushed too hard to get the 30k WR. Still happy to have won. Conditions were good, just a little bit too warm towards the end. Props to the spectators. Will possibly come back next year.
Perhaps.
It might be just me, but when I saw some haze in the air and spectators in T shirt I was a bit pessimistic about the weather.
Part of the problem was the temptation of the 30km WR.
While I think Halie can break his own marathon WR, I wondered after that fast 30km if it was going to be another repeat of Dubai 2008 where he also ran a very fast 30km.

Yes, he admitted that in the post race interview (see above).
Thanks guys, this was more interesting than watching the "Live" on Universal. They should be ashamed and their sponsors should quit them.
Returning to bed :)

wow, so much for the much hyped 2:03ish...big differnce when comparing to winning time here. Still going to finish watching the hour late coverage and hit the bed.
Meanwhile in the women's race: Besuye takes the win in 2:24:47.
Skvortsova coming from behind to take second place in 2:26:23 (PB at age 35).
Daska 3rd and Console 4th close behind.
If that 37k split of 1:48:50 was right, it was probably about 1:49:28-30 with 5k left, which means roughly 16:30 for the last 5k after averaging sub-14:40 through 35k.
That, folks, is a galactic OUCH! It even happens to the best when they get a little too ambitious. The marathon respects no one!
Was just watching race on Universal - its the 1st time it ever worked in the UK. At 1:30 clicked on Letrun homepage and realised race already finished - thanks a lot Universal! Well my wife's happy - no point to watch the rest- we are off out for a hike!

He is still leading in 2009, right? He had a bad day...there are few people in the world that can still win a race on a bad day. Haile is one of them.

he was in 2.05 shape. "poor" pacing.
Many people are in 2:05h shape. Very few actually run it. :-)

It seems that lame has gone to the bank with a big fat winners check.
