I am quite interested in this thread as I have just been told to do (and done) 5 x 1k with 90 secs rest at my target 5k pace i.e slightly quicker than PB. Session went well and gave me confidence but I don't know whether it was the "correct" recovery, felt right for me. I didn't get massively tired but close to race effort and hopefully some V02 benefit.
So was it sensible? Any thoughts?
Yes, this is a good session. Shorter rep (1k) and bit longr intervals makes this ideal
One thing I like to do is progress into it so: 8 x 600m with 90 secs rec for few weeks, then 6 x 800m working up to 5 x 1km (your session). Pace (target 5k pace) for all being the same (easier said than done!) - as fitness increase the rep length gets longer and more challenging
Keep up the good running
