8:14 is decent for a paced major meet in Europe nothing spectacular.
Yea but then Fam can't run any faster than he does at USA's.

Fam has never run as fast as 8:14, and he's past his prime now, Fam is old news. The future for the U.S. is Huling and Lincoln.

You sir, are an A-Hole. Congrats to Huling for giving us a glimpse of what is to come. The Men's Steeple AR will be shattered before London '12.

Only on letsrun can they downgrade this fact:
Lincoln
Marsh
Croghan
Diemer
DAN HULING
He is now the fifth best American ever!
I agree Gary is among top 3 active coaches when it comes to steeplechase.
Where's Mark Davis on list?
Whatever happened to Ian Connor? I thought he was one of Gary's best steeplechasers that he coached. Had a sweat picture in Sports illustrated when he fell at last water barrier at NCAA's in Eugene.
Not super surprised only because I was very impressed with Coach Gary's steeplechase presentation at Convention and remember him speaking very highly of Huling and Olinger both. I am sure this will motivate Olinger!
I'm thankfully 5th on that list at 8:14.26......
And it's MarC, with a "c" thank you.....
Congrats to Huling, as it's good to see something strong out our chasers this year!

so now we know which three guys (lincoln, fam, huling) will miss the next world championships.
This is a little old but I never saw it on here:
http://www.aamc.org/newsroom/reporter/july08/olympics.htmWe need to get some Kenyans as US citizens to compete in the Steeple. Nice race by Huling though.
If thats the real DOC Marc Davis, remember when Gary ran by you and almost caught Crogan at 1996 Trials? Crogan and DOC ended up making finals at Atlanta Games, but Gary smoked that final lap at the Trials.

let me repeat: lincoln hasn't run a steeple since '07... until he starts running under 8:15 again, he's the "past" of u.s. steeplechasing...
our top distance guys would always let us down at nationals, in the old days, at least. fam could run 8:08 if he trained seriously for the steeple. it would be exciting to have three guys gunning for sub 8:10 again, with lincoln and huling as well. is lincoln actually training in oregon or not?
Fam has been in the best shape of any runner in the field many times, but is just not a steeplechaser (sub-8:15) and is getting older.
Huling, Nelson, and Alcorn seem to have the drive and running talent for 8:10. Hear Olinger is moving out of the steeplechase for longer races. I don't believe Macadams can run much faster than 8:20 because he doesn't go out hard enough.
Is Slattery retired?

Wow....that is crazy good!
That's part of the problem. Too many in the US think that 8:14 is crazy good. It's pretty good, but when so many people are running at or under 8:00, then it's safe to presume that crazy good has yet to be achieved.
