Best running state (college)

Boy, I dunno...we only recently discovered there is such a thing as 'geography' and that was related to Michigan too. It seems like there should be a factor for: in-state recruits (+), out-of-state recruits (-) [country, continent, hemisphere??], school population versus square miles of the state in question, elavation of the running courses available to the campi at hand, number of runners that school has sent to the Olympics (only counts if they won a gold medal), whether the available course is certified by the forces for good in the running community as being accurate to at least 4 decimal places, tastefulness and style of the uniforms, number of books the coach has authored, number of times the coach has appeared on Oprah's show, and stuff like that -- if you want credibility.

That is what this list is about, isn't it. Credibility?

South Dkota is pretty solid, with 2 top 15 DII teams(University of South Daota and South Dakota State University), a top-level NAIA squad in Black Hills State, and one of the best coaches in the country at University of Sioux Falls(Rich Greeno).

Who cares since everyone in Michigan was too scared to put it on the line during the MI Intercollegiates.

i want to give props to michigan also, besides the 4 top D1 teams you also have Grand Valley State men at 10th in DII Hillsdale men at 11th in DII and Grand valley women at Number 3 in DII plus calvin with many championships and close finishes at DIII ............plus EMU and Uofm have definatley had their share of olympians, especiallly if you throw in non distance events.........

CU, CSU, AFA, WSC, ASC. 3 of those are closer to national champion status than any squad from Michigan.

WSC and ASC - Mens and Womens both ranked in top 3 D2

Lots of othe ranked teams from D1 and D2

Well, let's look at which state has the most (men's) national titles: DI: Arkansas (Razorbacks, duh) DII: Colorado (ASU & WSU)

What you say is true, but Fayetteville is only a little ways north of the Arkansas River which originates just a little ways from dear ol' Leadville, Colorado -- way high in the Rockies, so there may be reason to believe the influence is still there and some credit is due the state of Colorado..................?

Hey jerk off's. I am not talking about history. I am talking about who has the toughest state NOW. I say we see at nationals. I think it is Michigan, but I may be wrong. So I say we should score the team race like an individual race. The top 4 teams count; scored like a cross meet. (1 pt for first, 2 for second, etc.) The state with the lowest score is the "state" champion. Has a nice ring, kinda like being in high school again. If you want we can even do it for dII and DIII, but personally I am just concerned about DI. So we'll see on Nov. 25. Good luck to all!

The best running state in the land has to be Florida. Sun almost year around, the beaches, and the hot women to look at while running. Plus the Gators historically have had great sprinters and 800 guys in the NCAA's.

Texas has a D2 power (ACU), and HAD a NAIA power (Lubbock Christian) and JUCO (Blinn). Woodlands is a HS power. No D1 power, and Blinn and LCU fell victim of Title IX or some other malady.

Hot and humid 9 months of the year (and random days in the winter too). Who wants to run in 90+ degree weather every day with no fall to look forward to? There are hot women all over the place. I have lived in California and Florida and Cali smokes Florida for weather and women. I have never seen hotter women than in the Bay Area, women that can actually read and carry on a conversation that doesn't use the word "like" every 2 sentences.

Florida is absolutely the worst place I have ever lived for running. It was a miserable chore every day. The few cool days you couldn't even enjoy because you knew it would be shortlived.

Michigander is just upset 'cause nobody is agreeing (whole-heartedly) with him. It is true Michigan is probably stronger than it has been in many many years. However, depth isn't what most people remember. I've never had a conversation that went anything like, "Guys remember how deep the michigan colleges were in the 80s" That's just silly... all anyone is going to remember from this year are the winners... and MAYBE the other trophy winners... and I'd care to wager that NONE of those will be from Michigan... and I'm not saying that Michigan (the state) has bad runners or anything like that, I'm just saying that as deep as they are they don't have the superstar talent others do.
