If one calculates what was his fastest 5000 of his World 10000--from 3200 to 6400 he ran 8:34, and then take his last 2000 in 5:28 and subtract 34 for 4:54--then he ran about 13:28. Then factor in the warm weather, another 5000, two more weeks of speed work, increased confidence, his 8:11 and 13:15 PRs, the prospects of something good are pretty high. What might hamper him, as others has noted, is the opening pace. Whatever the pace is, we can anticipate that everyone else in the field will go with it, which means if it's very quick, Ritz will have to hang on at the back. if it's 13:00 pace, he can do that; if it's faster, I'm not sure. Now, I'm not saying he can run 13:00, but if he runs well, he can hang with that sort of pace for at least 4000, and then we'll see what's up. I know he wants to run under 13:10.
Oops--13:16, not 15.

You heard it hear first
Thank you!!! I'm going to mark your words.
he did great at world's. prior to us 10k, he ran a pretty slow five, maybe 13:40, and then he did 13:40 time trial at altitude in st. moritz before world's. he is in great shape. But maybe he's in better 10k shape now and he is going to have problems in this field, because if it is a fast race he can either run solo, as he did in berlin, or go too fast and burn out. I'd love to see a sub 13:10 but 13:18 could happen as well.
Bekele 12.48, dragging Ritz to an american record in 12.57
U heard it here first.
If it doesn't happen, then pretend you didn't hear it.

Haven't you guys learned yet. Didn't we go over all this mess in the galen rupp thread about him medaling this year or getting fifth. Look how well that turned out. Not saying anything about ritz but I think we have to WAIT AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS FIRST.
I will be interested to see if he sticks with the lead pack if and when there is surge. After the Berlin 10K he said his only regret was not pushing himself more to stay with the leaders midway through the race. The video confirmed that. He let a gap open between him and the lead pack but at the same time it wasn't a lot. Its like he was torn between wanting to speed up but at the same time wanting to stay within a consistent pace he was comfortable with.
In any case, he clearly feels he is in great shape right now. I'm excited to see how he does.
Everyone always expects the token American to run oh-so fast, never happens, Ritz will probably run in the 13:20 range and be in 10-12th place behind a bunch of Kenyans you never heard of.
13:15
He's obviously in great form, but I'm not sure he's had enough time back on the track to really grind out a fast 5k. He'll put himself out there though. He'll be in shouting distance of 13:05 before fading in the last two laps.
If he can get another 5k in September then I like his chances for 13:07.23.
13:11.59
At least it should be easy to find Ritz in the pack.

Kekele 12:50-12:55 reality check bekele...your not in 2004-2005 shape at the moment.
ritz: 13:15-13:25 will go out hard and die.
I'll predict he's trying to get under 13:10 and ends up just short at 13:11.

Yeah you tell Him!!! Not like he just ran 20km of racing and still ran 26:45(closing in 13:05) and 13 low without losing. Silly little Bekele, whats he thinking tryin to run just 10 seconds faster than his last 5k of a 26:45.
God of the losers would just stop posting here, this could be a legit site. To say he will not run under 12:50 is to say that you are an absolute retard. And you my friend, are.

Didn't Webb set the mile AR all by his lonesome, in Europe?

Im guessing the race will not go sub 12:50, but Bekele will win. I dont think its retarted to predict the race will not go sub 12:50. If He;s not thinking WR then He's thinking win, ragrdless of pace. There has to be someone else in the race who is capable and willing to go sub 12:50
Ritz ran 13:16 for his PR at the same meet when Webb ran 3:46. Ritz's last lap was 70, in part because he took the lead and pushed the penultimate lap too hard.
