Hey guys and girls,
With construction at the park and a new weekend, things have been moving slowly. We are 90% on for November 21st. Every time I call the parks department the lady who is handling our permit and everything is not there.
She was supposed to send me a questionnaire, and once I filled that out, we would be good to go. I never received it.
So the permit application has been in for some time, but its not 100% finalized yet without this questionnaire I need to fill out.
Still, I would plan on the 21st of November and will post on this thread to 100% verify that. Will hopefully know tomorrow or early next week.
The other Manhattan Clubs must be wondering, what needs to happen to beat the MTC?
Conto is a dick....not neccessary I know but no thread featuring the great man is complete without some worthless, nameless slander.
There - I feel complete.
On a related note, and I'm reluctant to start another whole thread on this, does anyone know what's going on with the construction at Van Cortlandt? It's been in the works for over a year now, with no end in sight. Is there a projected finishing date? How could it possibly take so long to grow grass on a field?
Conto was robbed of the Nobel Peace Prize.
spikes or flats @ VCP?
Spikes. A lot of the course is on crushed stone, and the rest is on grass.
Just ran the revised course last week. No more grass, due to the field being closed for construction, as noted above.
Either spikes or flats are OK, as the footing is good all the way around. When I was in high school, we used to run track races on a similar surface, without the hills and railroad ties of course.
Was up at VCP a couple a weeks ago and was also surprised the construction was still on going.
From my memory, when they started(a couple years ago???), they were only doing the NW softball fields and now they appeared to be doing the whole entire field. This is a large area to seed and it appeared that they were trenching some areas(for possible drainage or irrigation). This process would take some time, but the main reason to keep everything closed is traffic.
If you only open a small area that is completed, then a much larger proportion of traffic will come to that area and ruin it much quicker. And, it will be compromised before the rest of the newly constructed area is open. Then the newer seeded areas will attract a larger proportion of traffic when they are open.
To be honest, with all the use that grass area gets at VCP, I'm not sure why they put in so much effort in the construction, but the part that is done looks great! At least they're putting money into it.
Conto, not that I have an urgent need to know this, but do you think you will use the same 8K course that was used for Heps?
What times would the races be? After the ECAC/IC4A races?
Race is Nov 22nd - according to their message board.
The website says the 21
Per Conto, it's the 22nd:
Hey guys,
The race is SUNDAY, November 22nd. Due to the construction, we could not get the 21st. The hold up has been entirely on the parks department... its been quite frustrating.
Anyway, I got official word today that the 22nd is a go.
