nick symmonds has run the 1500 a couple times. I bet he could hit a home run in a few hundred at bats. I'm willing to say that he could have a decent batting average because he might be able to bunt on or get infield singles

FWIW.
Plus Jaccoby Ellsbury could run 14flat, right now if he wanted to. But there isn't enough poon in distance running for him to even want to try.
I'm not sure about the XC results, but I know he placed in the 100m at the the whatever-class-his-HS-is Texas T&F State Championship. I want to say he ran 10.4 or 10.5.

My money is on Ichiro.
Agreed. I wouldn't be surprised to see Ichiro run a 5 min mile. He's 5'11" and 170 lbs which is rather thin for MLB.

There is no freakin way Ichiro is 5' 11" and 170.
If you believe MLB.com, here is the link:
Oh i get it, you think its easy to get infield hits and bunt in the mlb.

No way. I think this is closer to correct.

Yo dumbass, you should become a scout for MLB and try to sell Symmonds as your prospect.
I'm also of the opinion that Ichiro could easily break 18 minutes. He's fast but he has more of a wiry runners build. I've read that he does go on runs for some of his training (don't know how much/how far but I don't think he'd need much).

Zach Torres. Son of a former Dodger and has already made some national Jr. teams.

How many elite runners could hit more than 4 pitches thrown in the stike zone out of 100 and make it to first base safely if pitched by a major league pitcher and fielded by a mlb team?
Yes, but breaking 18 would be roughly the equivalent to getting on base in a high school game. I'm pretty sure there are at least a couple of elites that could have seen the field on a shitty high school team.

Actually, he'd probably have a hard time hitting 5:30 as great an athlete as he is. Runners forget how hard it is for conditioned people who aren't runners to cover a mile in 6 min. It's very hard for them. It's doubtful Ichiro does any kind of conditioning that would help him run a mile much faster than 6 min. But he can get from home to 1st faster than any poster at letsrun.

are you sure you "know" that? isn't track season during baseball season?
On the contrary, for well-conditioned lean athletes like Ichiro, a 6:00 mile is a snap.
I remember in the old days when I used to watch "Superstars" and they would have half-mile runs. There were soccer players and other "non-runners" who could do the thing in 1:55. I'm sure some of thoese guys could do a mile well under 5:00.
I highly doubt any baseball player could break 18. Breaking 18 is no easy feat & all baseball players train to be extremely fast twitch. Baseball requires much faster and shorter durations than basketball and football.
These guys never run for longer than 14 sec at a time except for the rare double or triple & then they get to rest for a few minutes.
Don't be stupid. Heck, in HIGH SCHOOL, I knew a kid (on the varsity baseball team) who ran track for a year in middle school (8th grade) and ran around a 5:12 1600. If you think not many PRO ATHLETES could run an 18:00 5K you are kidding yourself. Pro Athletes are what most of you could never be, so stop trying to make yourselves feel better saying that they couldn't certainly be faster than you.
A 5:12 mile is different than a 5k. We're talking 3 times the distance. Get it?
Pro athletes are not able to hit home runs AND run long distance. It's basic muscle physiology. Maybe maybe there is some FT ST moderate in baseball land, but I could almost guarantee he stinks in baseball because baseball is entirely a fast twitch sport.
Yea but we are talking about an 18 minute 5k!!! Who can't do that? My neighbors can do that.
