I have no rational explanation at all for my harebrained crack ho statements. I'm just a girl trying to impress the guys!
A lot of those 49 guys are college athletes. They aren't gonig to run a marathon and sacrifice the rest of their Ncaa season recovering from it. I don't feel like counting them but it looks like quite a few from that list.
Not to mention, the marathon in this country is for guys who realize they aren't fast enough for the track or they're getting older and have lost some of their speed for the track. There are exceptions (hall) but that is true more than not. In this country and I'd argue everywhere (Kenya is loaded in the marathon, but not until the track is loaded first).
2:22 OT qualifier doesn't mean the same thing as a 10,000m or 5,000m qualifier. A 2:22 doesn't mean you're even close to elite. But if you're an OT qualifier on the track then you've got a good case at calling yourself elite.
That's my OPINION. Thanks.
So my point is don't blame our country for not "valuing the marathon". Blame the NCAA system if anything. It just isn't realistic to do the marathon during a college season. Take all of those college guys out of the 10,000m list and it's much shorter than 49 and much closer to the marathon number.
And my other point is the US treats the marathon as 2nd best to the track events just like every other country in the world (except for maybe Asian countries). I'd argue that the Africans put the track first too. Why do guys like Geb use the track for their prime? That's what everyone does.

Now Chad is going for 2:15 to 2:17. At the Freep on that course, Chad will NOT break 2:17, that's a fact pal. He's a nice guy, I've seen him at the Lake Orion store many times. It's not personal, it's a fact that unfortunately, he's not that good, or should I say good enough to run 2:15 on that course. I've run it, up the bridge and down the bridge. Down the tunnel and up the tunnel. It is not the toughest course in the world, but it's not the easiest either. I've run it 4 times and did not get under 2:30 once, but I did it in Columbus on my first try there, believe it or not. Like I said, Chad is not running 2:15 on that course, no way! I'll be the first person to post and eat crow at the same time if I'm wrong, but I don't think that'll happen. If you do, fine, it's your opinion and that's your right. I'm not bashing him, I'm just being realistic, there's a difference.
That's interesting, because as far as I can tell there have been only 2 Michigan men who have been under 2:30 in Columbus in the past 9 years. And I'm pretty sure you are neither of them.
