Why is it that anyone who improves or runs fast is accused of drug use? Give her some credit for her efforts unless you can prove something. You don't need drugs to run 1:57-1:58.
She was a low two min 800 runner in college and a very fast prep (though not the best 400 runner out there). From what I heard she was just running in Santa Cruz when the local coach started working with her.
She is legit and had a huge PR. 1:57 is good this year but if she was on drugs she would be consistantly 1:54 or below, just like the rest of the world come the Olympics. You guys are so synical.
I have seen six races of hers on video, and the 1:57 was the ONLY one where she was through the 400 in sub 60 and then pushed through to 600. And arguably, this was due primarily to the "Red Sea" fluke she experienced in that race.
She has been at that fitness level throughout this season.

Apparantly you do if you're Russian.
Americans are fine though, they do it on hard work and a daily chant of 'USA USA USA'.
Well, all Russians cheat. It's criminal thug culture.
But surely for an Amercian distance runner, watching all these nasty, foreign, freedom hating athletes doping, makes it hard not to make a stand and do it too?
No, because we are moral, sensitive, caring, decent.
Well, at least we've got liberal use of commas in common.
Will there be a videotape of the race?
We do. We are brothers in punctuation.

The whole New Balance thing is bizarre. New Balance? Really? A track runner?

I found this funny, that's bad.
52.35 - it came to me in a dream
Having known Vessey through growing up in the same small running community I know that a huge inspiration for her running was a particularly difficult personal hardship (a truly amazing and heartbreaking story) that would inspire only the strongest of people to do what she has done, and likely force many weaker individuals to cope in far less glorious outlets (i.e. self medication/destruction.) There are more details that she should choose to share and not have posted anonymously on a BB, but I think that that kind of motivation is paradoxical to all these slanderous accusations of EPO usage. Furthermore, Brock is an amazingly gifted coach and an extremely honorable human being who would never encourage his athletes to use any kind of performancing enhancing drugs (he is even reluctant to use advil on a regular basis for god's sakes.) So drop these ridiculous drug rumors (heck she should take it as a compliment at this point) and lets all just say, "Go Maggie!"

Will she even use blocks? I doubt it. I don't know what would be gained by that.

she entered college as a 400 runner, jesus...
So? I really doubt it would make a difference in her time especially if she hasn't been practicing starts. Why use starting blocks if you haven't been practicing in them? It adds a small but unnecessary risk of injury, doing a movement that you don't perform that often.
Did she use blocks in that other 400m she ran this year? Anybody know? Please report back on whether she uses blocks for this race and how her start out of them is if she does.

Ah, if it's a real race, she HAS to use blocks according to the rules.
