My roomate plans to install a hot tub soon. Will this aid in recovery, hamper recovery, or not make a difference? All the beer I will be drinking in it is a completely different story...

Most studies show a hot tub post-workout/race will hinder recovery.
After a long run or any tough workout, your joints and muscles are inflamed. If you put heat on them, the blood flow to those areas will increase, which can make them even more inflamed. In addition, you may already be slightly dehydrated post-run, and the heat from the hot tub may dehydrate you even more.
Ice bath is the way to go for better recovery...

show me the study that proves that ice baths are anything but a good way to cool off after a hot run.
it's just the latest fad going in the running community. you know we're always sucker for anything that's uncomfortable and unenjoyable.
Tell that to race horses and Sheehan who advocated it way back when
You do realize that people "prescribe" all kinds of things based strictly on anecdotal evidence, yes?

First, ice baths are used by athletes in numerous sports, so your runner community theory isnt all that stable. Second, would you suggest that using ice on a localized spot for treatment of pain is a "fad" that has no scientific merit? If so you are an idiot and not worth explaining to you how an ice bath is the same principle only with a larger area.
