become a Principal of a school with above 750 students or a director of education. Both of these jobs make above $110,000 in Canada. Not sure how the US works. Principal = sweet job. 3 months off every year, and the most rewarding job of all the teachers.
Principals don't get summers off. They work the entire year (except for their couple weeks vacation). Teachers in the US get off from mid June to mid August (two months) and they get a week off for Christmas. However, they HAVE to work on a certain amount of credits every few years which means the summer is the time to take graduate courses. One thing to keep in mind is that good teachers easily put in 50-60 hours a week during the school (not including coaching) and don't get paid overtime. Here is some math to look at.
Teachers work 42 weeks a year about 50 hours a week.
42 x 50 = 2100 hours a year
2100 / 52 weeks = average 40 hours a week
