I saw some great articles from here that back up what I've seen repeatedly--high mileage, lots of running, is key to top level running--so I'm hoping there are some experts on this topic who can help me out here!
The thing is, as much as I love to run and want to dedicate my life to it [pretty much do mentally!], I have had a LOT of injuries, including 3 sfx's, in the last few years. It all started with building my mileage. I grew up a swimmer and entered the running world in good shape, but my legs have trouble handling the impact or something.
I've made the most successful progress when I split my training with cross training-lots of elliptical, some other things like spinning and stairmaster.
What I really want to do is RUN though-build to that 100mpw level for starters, or even 70's!
Yet I feel stuck at 40-50's unless I compromise what I get out of it.
Lately I've even been struggling to keep it consistently at 50 without feeling like I'm working through injury, semi-gimpified.
Does anyone have any good advice to how I can get to the essential high mileage that I WANT to be doing, but can't seem to hold up to?
I'd like to substitute all the time I spend on the elliptical and bike with real running-but I fear this will only result in me being broken once again.
I do also include 3-5 days/week of core/strength training to work on the foundational strength.
