I love to aqua jog and do it when I'm not hurt. I have been told by a friend that the majority of runners hate to run in the pool and I decided I'd see who likes it and who despises it

It started out as way just to cross train, but now I find that some days, especially in the winter, I'd rather aquajog than head outdoors. Get a waterproof mp3 player, zone out without worrying about cars, and the time flies by.
Its really not as bad as people say it is. It doesnt replace running but I'd rather be in a pool than staring at a wall on a stationary bike
Only do it when hurt. Mindnumbing boredom - as exciting as running on a treadmill. View never changes, it is wet, and smells of chlorine. DESPISE IT!
F*** you.
I f***ing hate running in the pool.
Probably my least favorite activity ever, completely mind-numbing.
Lets see you in there for an hour and half every day for 6-8 weeks and see exactly how much you enjoy it.
This is unfairly harsh, and I'm sorry. I really should strive not to respond so rudely merely because its allowed by the anonymous accommodation.
Can't stand it. Got injured in track this year and had to be in it, was doing about 2 hours a day and my fitness still went to hell. Tried even doing intervals, could get my heartrate and breathing up but it sure didn't translate when I got back out on the track.
I live along a river and often jump in and water jog after a run, or instead of a run. Great scenery and environment- and a great workout when the current is strong.
Take your belt to a local waterway if you can - great way to beat the heat on those hot days as well.

I'm about the same. What's really surprising is that a lot of experts claim its great but I dont see it. I also did up to 2 hours/day but didnt see any results when I recovered from my injuries. I couldnt come close to even maintaining my fitness pre injury. On the other hand, its nice to jump into a pool after a run. Its refreshing, especially to the legs. It helps me relax after a run; thats about it, no other benefit as far as I can see.
I think it takes a while to get the hang of it, but once I did, I really liked it because it felt more like running than any other x-training. I do an hour 5x/week, and with the intervals time really flies. Requires a lot more mental focus to get a decent workout than heading out for an easy hour run though.
Agree with Hours and Minutes. Try spending four months straight in there. Every day. No less than 80 mins a pop. It. SUCKS.
I was finishing up a session one day and a well-meaning woman said to me "Oh I just love aqua-running, don't you?"
I almost tried to drown her.
Once you learn to do it properly, then "jogging" is not the right word. You can really crank up the intensity, every other day, and get a great workout. If your injury is such that you can not even jog, then you can cycle on the other days. When you first get out of this phase, you will have "pool-legs" for a couple of weeks, until you get your running legs back. But you can maintain and even improve your fitness on this program....you have to work at it, but it is possible. And if you are at the right pool, the scenery can be just fine...:)
I wanted to increase my mileage by quite a bit, I keep my land mileage the same and did the rest of the goal mileage in the pool. Every week-2 weeks, I decreased my pool mileage and increased my land mileage.
I felt that I was much stronger by the time I got to my goal mileage and stayed injury free for a couple of years.
I liked it, but agree with the mp3 player.
I would much much rather stationary bike than aquajog. At least I can listen to music and actually get a decent workout in; in the pool it feels like I'm not getting anything out of it no matter how hard I go.
Hate it
I agree with the others - do it for weeks on end in sessions lasting over an hour, and you will hate it more than anything else in your life.
It works though.
One of my ambitions for the winter is to break the aqua jogging marathon world record.
i hate it
its the worse thing possible
Try not being able to aqua jog because of your 5 month injury. At least you can do that.
To people who say about not getting results, you would be better doing front crawl for that length of time.
