Bernard Lagat already proved that.
It only takes another African to do it.
as one who ran occasionally against lomong in HS, i can vouch for his incredible talent. everyone who competed against tully knew this guy was special.
he has never had great speed (he was running 50 flat mostly in 4x4 relay), but is INCREDIBLY strong. his junior year in HS he'd go out 60 flat and 2:04 in 1600m races and then just jog it in after his lead was massive.
the fact that he has run 145 and 332 and 749 demonstrates his gift. the guy started running as a sophomore in HS, he will improve substantially still, imho.
Lopez was huge in HS, he slimmed down and that is probably one of the many reasons he got significantly better. You can also add in a very good coach, and some years of consistent training to that and now you have a 332 guy. Like somebody else said, its not like he sucked, he was a FL finalist and ran 410 for the 1600.
cause he is an african brainiac, along with lagat. only american by choice

Is it me, or are people getting much more stupid these days?
It's too bad that stupid isn't painful.

It's alot cooler to see a guy like this do well, he's alot more entertaining and interesting than just some boring white guy. And he is american just because he isn't your skin color makes no difference at all to anyone but "people" like you. the sooner you realize that most of the best athletes in the world in every sport are people of color, the sooner you can get on with your life, just like the sport usually reserved for old rich white people: golf, has been dominated by a black person LOL!!
