You are an idiot to suggest that African runners are "cousins" of African-Americans, who are in the vast majority of west African descent (most African long-distance runners are, of course, from east Africa).
There are over 40 nations and a billion people in Africa, and more human genetic diversity within the continent than in the rest of the world combined. Aside from skin color and hair texture, Kenyan runners have no more in common with people descended from abducted west African slaves than Portuguese winemakers do with Irish potato farmers.
