Anyway, I'm really curious to see what happens and I think mostly it will come down to whether Adam really, truly wants to be a marathoner, or even a road racer.
And health, I've heard a bit about him struggling with injuries over the last 18 months. In the past Goucher has shown complete faith in Alberto so I think a lot of this has just been health related. But your right, he may have been thinking that he could get out there and pop a good 10K and make the team, maybe put up one of the fastest 10K's ever for an American (big difference from about 27:35 to 27:25 as far as that goes). Maybe they both sat down and said that trying to bang it out on fast track intervals is just not going to work with his body. Maybe they said lets give it a go for another year or two and reassess.
Considering the attempts to race into shape before USA's and then just deciding to skip USA's seems like perhaps it was the last attempt and know they are trying something different.
I know there is not a lot of money in it, but I wish he'd spend the next 10 months dedicated to cross country and the world cross country championships. I still think 12K cross is a very good event for him. Perhaps he could do a fall marathon and then take a break and get ready for US and world cross.
