We don't know if he has a shot to win. We certainly know he has a shot at the podium.
But any of Contador, Sastre, Schleck or Evans could prove themselves to be the much superior climber and put several minutes on Armstrong if he isn't up to the Verbier climb. We'll have to see.

Two points:
FAIL!!!!!!!!!
Actually not a fail at all. We're talking exclusively about a television event, or one someone would go see in person. Working within that limited set, it's pretty impossible foor something to bore someone who isn't watching it, unless they're just trying to get a rise out of people / stroke ego for some reason.

Oh hi. wrote:Hey, serious (noob) question here:
Why is Hincapie mad at the Garmin team for picking up the pace? I understand that he'd like the yellow jersey, but this is a race, right? So why the hell wouldn't they go faster? Perhaps I just don't understand some of the tour etiquette or something.
Because George isn't a threat to Garmin's GC guys (wiggins and VdV), and Garmin wasn't moving up to set up a sprint. So in the end, Garmin tired out their guys the day before a big stage without gaining anything. Garmin's DS claims it was to keep the guys in the front and out danger... a rather weak explanation.
Alternate, less nefarious explanation:
Garmin wants Ag2R to remain in yellow because Astana has been assisting the relatively weak Ag2R all week in driving the pace. If Columbia had the jersey, their relatively strong team would be responsible for pacemaking in the peleton, giving Astana a break. Making Astana do all the work is in Garmin's GC interest. Garmin's very strong team of TTists is not tired from that last 30k drive where they were assisted by Silence-Lotto among others.
Crazy like a fox, that Vaughters.
The winner is being decided RIGHT NOW!!!

However, this is pro cycling and there are teams and you ride against other TEAMS not other nations. Don't do that at the Olympics or World Championships. :-) So, it was perfectly fine. If you wanna be in yellow, ride faster.
Having that said, today is a whole different picture and we will see some serious racing. There will be attacks and I predict that at the end of the day we will know for the first time if LA has a shot for no.8
We already know he has a shot.
....NOT!
The Tour is over. AC is the winner. LA couldn't even drop Andreas Kloden. He made the pace for him all the way up and at the end LA wasn't even able to follow his domestique.
why do you guys care?
they're all a bunch of lying cheats. I wouldn't care about them doping, but the lying about it is pathetic.

Add Kloden, Nibali and Wiggo to this list.
I've been cheering for Lance and have been pretty optimistic about his chances, but after seeing Contador today, I think it's all his. He put almost a minute on the next rider, Schleck, and didn't even appear to be struggling. However LA was being left by Kloden at the end there. Lance is doin well for his age, but I think his chance of winning is truly over.
Tuesday will be a slightly different climbing stage... today's climb was short and sweet, maybe the Schlecks will do better on something longer. I'm excited...

yeah lance is done competing. after today hes just out there to be one of contadors pacers for the rest of the tour. hopefully he can at least manage a podium finish.
It certainly looks that way. I think Lance is just gambling that Contador will overdo his attacks on the mountains and suddenly crack. However he would at least have to be the best of the rest to capitalize on that.
No way does he manage a podium finish. Are you kidding? If Leipheimer was still in this thing, Lance wouldn't even make the podium of his "team." I am assuming Johan is going to allow Kloden to do his own thing / ride for Contador now.
V6 - think before you write something so stupid...LA is in 2nd and that is where he will probaby finish

Did they start expanding the podium to the 12th place finisher?
Contador, Andy S., B-Wigg, and Sastre are all locks to beat him, Kloden, CVV, Frank S. and a few others all have pretty great shots at knocking him down too. LA should be ecstatic if he finishes top 10.

Are you serious? Even if you think Lance is somehow going to pull off a podium finish, you realize that Bradley Wiggins is a 4-time Olympic Gold Medalist, right? He is a phenomenal time trialer. Stage 18, he will distance himself from Lance. Today, he proved he is as good or better of a climber. Schleck proved he is a ridiculous climber and I find it hard to imagine Lance will maintain his lead after Ventoux.

Wasn't Cantador suspended last year due to PED violation?
Contador has no history of PEDs. At most, he got a shady past in Liberty Seguros.
