After reading about how he tried working with the Salazar group but didn't think it was a 'good fit'. Are you kidding? His career is in a total meltdown and he feels continuing to do more of what hasn't been working for the past two years is a better option than working with the most successful coach/training group currently going? That probably says a lot right there.
Not that the Salazar group is the end-all be-all. But uprooting himself from his (presumably) comfortable routine and casting his lot with SOME elite training group would show some fortitude and maturity - both of which he seems to lack. The upside, though, is that the only person standing in his way is himself. In short, if he wants to maximize his potential (which is still huge), it seems he'll need to grow up before he grows old. Raczko could help this along by firing himself as his coach. Force AW's hand - either find it within himself to get into a better situation, or call it a career.
The guy is the most physically talented runner in US history. Period. But this slump is so severe its gotten to the point where Steve Scott is publicly offering him unsolicited advice. Maybe his is the best advice of all - take a 3 or 6 or even 12 month sabbatical from running, then see how he feels. It could do him a world of good.
