As defending WC champion all he he has to do is run one race in order to receive his bye into the WC 400m. It's the same thing that Lagat did in the 800m.

So he dogs it? Come on man, the dude's a competitor - no way he just lets those guys smoke him like that. It's not like a single 200m race is going to screw up his training.
Have not seen race but suspect he feared injury and eased up-still a threat in Berlin 400
he might have been using these races as work to the start of his 400 form. This is too slow for him and he didn't look like he was straining to compete.
Funny he still thinks he's a 200/400 type. MJ ran over a second faster than him in the 200. I'm not saying he should move up to the 800, but he should at least run a few to work more on his strength. Or at least do some 600's indoors.

Are you just ignorant or really bad at math?

He hasn't been back with Hart that long - and they're playing catch-up for this season. Hart himself said no promises for this year, but he feels that by next season he can have Wariner back on track, which I think he can. Wariner has been doing a lot of "over-distance" stuff (for a quarter miler) so there was no way he was going to be be running 20.1 or so in this meet. I think Hart should add heavy weight training to Wariner's regimen but that isn't the way he wants to go. He feels that Jeremy has a lot of untapped strength that can get him to WR or faster level. He doesn't think Wariner can hang with the "muscle" guys as he calls them in the 200. (I wonder if Hart realizes that can be taken several ways)
I'm more bothered by Webb - hope he was really injured. Glad for Lopez but a shitty time and not the greatest finish in terms of speed off a slow pace. Our crew is in trouble in Berlin in this event.
Back to the 400 - the US may very well be on its way to another sweep in this event. I think Wariner can get into medal shape by the time the WC's roll around.
Has any country gone 1234 in one event in WC?
happened twice in 2005.
men's 200m final even though gatlin was probably doping. amazing that tyson gay was only running 20.3 then.
women's 5k final
yes
US in mens 200
Ethiopia in womens 5000
can't remember year but it was the same for both
You have to be kidding me, do you actaully think he's a 200m runner? He doesnt have the footspeed for anything less than 400m. He wins 400m meters on strength.

Well actually he is quite fast in the 200m, as he had the fastest 200m time of any high schooler his senior year. I believe it was 20.6.
Just because he isn't posting some blazing times i the 200m now doesn't mean he doesn't have what it takes to be a great 200m guy, but that he is focusing on a different race (400m).
Also, just because he isn't running something like 19.3 and breaking records doesn't mean he isn't fast at 200m, just give him a chance!
if he had a mind to, he could excel at the 800m. his body type doesn't preclude him. gotta want to, though.

You don't win the 400 on strength......ever.
And 20 seconds is a pretty decent 200 not many people are just breaking out those 19.30s anymore.
No he's not quite fast at 200m.
"just because he isn't posting some balzing times i the 200m doesn't maen he doesn't have what it takes to be a great 200m guy"
Yes it does mean he does not have what it takes. He'll never break 20. If you dont break 20, your not a player on the world stage. He's only run 20.2 He is not a pure sprinter, does not have the explosiveness for it, but thats what also makes him so good at 400m.

If you dont win 400s on strength why dont the fastest 100m guys win 400s. Its because theres an element of strength and aerobics. Wariner has that ability, but he's not a pure sprinter. He will not break 20 sec. He's just not cut out for it.
I think his point was that Wariner was obviously fast if he wins the 400m. As much as it is both a speed and strength event, you still need the speed.
I think Wariner would clearly be suited for like a 600m. Sad when your best even isn't an event.
Did any of you see the race? He clearly was not in position to advance to the finals so he cruised it in to the line from about 15m-20m out.
With a lot of money on the line in Berlin and in European meets, I can't blame him for playing it safe. In contrast, Gay only ran once in the 100 vs. Wariner ran twice in the 200.
Get over it.
