It is unfortunate that the only fast 10k that Rupp will probably still run this year will be at World's. But, this means he will probably take part in a fast 5k in europe to prep for this race. Might get to see him run sub 13:10.

Lets not start to overrate Rupp like we did with Ritz. Both are very good runners, but not among the very best in the world.

I think he just hits the gym/weights to much, distance runners need very little time in the gym. Which means he has to carry an extra 10-15 all the way around the track.
I used to compete in Northern VA, ran against Alan & got killed of course... I don't have common friends with Alan but we have 3 common acquaintances that I know of.
Anyway, apparently the guy is pretty vain & is concerned about his (visual, physical) image. Less so about his "image" (how people perceive him as a person & competitor).
Hey it's his choice, we can all agree on that. It's his life.
But between the weights / pushups, the Razsko (sp?) coaching, etc... I think we can stick a fork in the guy.
He'll go down as one of the saddest stories in USTAF history -- underperformer of the century when it comes to raw talent vs. championships (I'm not concerned with fragile ARs that were run as a time trial.... show me the medals.)
The dude's head is checked out. His heart's not in it anymore. He doesn't have the wheels, and what's worse, he believes it.... at least if he didn't believe it, maybe every so often he'd run out of his mind.
Do you guys ever look on his face before a race? FEAR.
Not confidence, not strength, not aggression.. but FEAR.
"Look at all these fast guys. I can't kick with them down the homestretch, hell I can't hang with them through the homestretch."
First of all you confused vanity with low self esteem good job that was a rookie mistake and you only slightly embarassed yourself there.
Next you say he is checked out because he has a hamstring injury? Thats where you full on made yourself a laughing stock.
there's alot of anecdotal evidence to suggest that webb used steroids from a very young age, but that evidence is merely anecdotal
listen to how salazar talks about training rupp: alberto emphasized slow, steady development. i wonder if alan's coach has adopted the same strategy, as alan is notorious for overtraining and peaking too early.
i'm afraid alan might have trained himself into a hole; he looks physically and mentally shot. it seems he was an early bloomer, hit his physical peak at a very young age, and is now having to battle symptoms of older age earlier as well. keep in mind lagat and kevin sullivan are anomalies in middle distance racing.
as for people talking about webb's weight. wasn't he always a beefy guy? its something that intrigued me since his early days. you'd watch el guerrouj and these kenyans as the worlds elite, and then this shorty body builder would slam a 3:53. its almost as if something in his diet that made him run fast had the side effect of increased muscle mass.....
3:46<12:58 just wanted to clear that up.
From IAAF Scoring Tables:
3:46.91 = 1241 points = 12:51.62 for 5000 and 3:30.29 for 1500
(btw: Webb's 1500 PR = 3:30.54 = 1237 points)
12:58.21 = 1216 points ( = 3:48.87 for 1 mile)
3:46.91 = 8th fastest performer ever
(Webb's 1500 pr of 3:30.54 = 26th fastest performer ever)
Kennedy's 12:58.21 = 50th fastest performer ever
Clearly, 3:46 > 12:58
This is a moot point since Webb can't run those times anymore.

Alan Webb has better Pr's in ever distance than Rupp. Why hasn't Alan focused more on 5 and 10k?
...cause he is DONE.

Neither can Bob Kennedy. Lagat might still do it though.
This is all crazy talk anyway. Let's give Rupp a couple years to run as a pro before we start talking too much shit about him. It was pretty clear that this year he was in it to win it, not chase ARs.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
