Alan Webb has better Pr's in ever distance than Rupp. Why hasn't Alan focused more on 5 and 10k?

He hasn't focused more on the 5K and 10K because in 2007 he was the fastest miler in the world and the second fastest 800-meter guy.
Because he ran 3:53 in high school and is still trying to be America's next great hope in the mile. Most guys move up from HS to college, and from college to pros.
Ritz

Webb has run 27:34
Rupp has run 27:33
Which one is faster?
Webb's 27:34 was pretty awesome. He ran that head to head against Ritz a few years ago. Everyone thought Ritz was going to win it. Little did they know.
Webb is an unreal runner. He has/had so much cardiovascualr strength and year and years of base, that is why he is so good. He swam seriously for years and years before his running campaign began. This is why he is so good. He has so much base. He is like the Kenyans. The Kenyans have years and years of base from running to school, well, Webb has his base from swimming from a very young age. This is what makes the difference.
ALan ran 1310 5k and 27:34 10k. Rupp hasn't done those both in the same year. I think Webb will beat rupp in a 10k head to head.
What do you think?
I think if anyone is going to break bob kennedy's 5k record it will be Webb.

If Webb does well in the 1500 tomorrow then that won't sound as silly

he's the fastest american miler EVER, so i'd say his "trying to be america's next great hope" worked out okay...

HOLY BEAJESUS
webb will need to man the f*** up if he intends on breaking any more AR's
i cant wait for the day that breaking 13 for an american is old hat. it's probably 10-15yrs down the road, but really - this is getting stupid.

he has been in one olympic 1500 final and it didn't go over well
He ran 1310 for 5k. Did anyone run that fast lately? I think he could break 13 if he focused on 5k.

Actually, people move up sometimes because HS distance runners have a Steeple, 5k and 10k in college that they don't have in HS, and there is no outdoor equivalent in college to the HS 3200.
And since there is only one event beyond the 10k (at any time), it may seem that anyone running a marathon is "moving up" from their college distance, but that is only because people tend to run marathons AFTER college ... for many reasons ... none of which have to do with them needing to move up.
As far as DR, he ran three 5ks in HS, 14:10, 13:52 and 13:44. He won three National titles in the 2M, and three State titles (and one in the 1600). He ran (and won) more than 50 two-mile races during HS. So, NO he was NOT a 5k specialist during HS.
In college, he ran the 10k once, a 27:38 ACR in his debut, unless you count the 31:XX that he limped through in the '04 Trials. He placed 4th in the indoor 5k once, 4th in the Outdoor 5k once and 2nd his last year. He ran many 1500s and 5000s during his brief college career -- including a 13:27 and 13:29 and BIG 12 indoor and outdoor titles. So, NO he was not a 10k specialist while in college.
He ran his first marathon in Nov. '06, more than two years after leaving college. Keep in mind that he is not a marathon specialist either, evidenced by his participation in the USATF 10k every year, and a 28:05 and 27:58 the last two years. So, NO he isn't a marathon specialist now either.
Either Webb was on drugs or he has some type of auto-immune disease that cause inflammation.
His body appearance/muscle tone changes alot. And it is not solely his hair.

I believe that very same year lagat and Teg ran faster. Lagat 12:59, and Teg 13:04.

I watched that race from the stands, and I definitely didn't think Ritz was going to win it. After 9K, I remember saying to my wife that if I was Ritz I'd be a little worried that Webb was still right on my ass despite the quick pace. The final move Webb made to pass with 100 to go made me wonder if Alan could have squeaked out 10-15 seconds faster. It was definitely one of the smarter races that Webb has run, probably because he wasn't sure if he could beat Ritz at 10K. I often get the feeling that his attitude for 1500 is that he's just going to go balls out and blow everyone away, which leads to things like him getting caught outside in the prelims in Athens.

Lagat 13:03 this year and 12:59 in 2006, Tegenkamp 13:04, Solinsky 13:12, FAM 13:11, Asmeron 13:15, Goucher 13:10, Bro 13:11, Abdi 13:13, Dobson 13:15
All in the last 4 years
Should we try to find anymore?

I'm not sure if drugs is the issue but he does seem to fluctuate body size. I think he just hits the gym/weights to much, distance runners need very little time in the gym. It looks like he is at least 10 to 15 lbs to heavy. Which means he has to carry an extra 10-15 all the way around the track.
Webb has better PRs than just about every US distance runner. In 2007 he was one of the best this country's has ever seen. Now he is just another runner.
Against the best African's Rupp is just another runner.
