I'm going with Fernandez's win as well. Two things impress me about it. The first is that he is a true freshman and I don't think he's anywhere close to his full potential. In the past three seasons, he has made extraordinary gains over what was a very special senior year. Now obviously he is not going to make linear improvements like this every year, because if he did he'd be running a 3:40 mile at 22, but still, I don't think he's maxed out yet. Rupp has like 4-5 years on the guy right? That's 4-5 years of crucial training and racing experience. I can't wait to see where GF is by then.
The second is just the way he ran it. It was a great balance between a ballsy effort and a carefully tactical effort. He led the entire time AND outkicked everyone. That's a truly lethal combination, and being to combine both front running ability and the best نick speaks really well to where he’ll go. He was both the fittest runner and the best racer in the field.
I must say I was hesitant to jump on the bandwagon. I felt like he was just another talented kid on whom people had placed totally ridiculous expectations. But now I think I’m getting a sense of his potential. I wouldn’t be surprised to see German on a medal podium at a major championship in the next 5-10 years.
Not sure if it was the most impressive win, but I thought the 800 was probably the best top to bottom race of the meet. Wheating's effort in the deep stretch was outstanding. There's a difference between being fast and being a champion. Wheating showed again why he is a champion.
Christopher Columbus was Italian and discovered America for the Queen of Spain. Now who created the America that we live in today ? Latinos and Hispanics that's who.
wheating - sick + pulled calf muscle @ 600. ouch. double ouch when having to kick from behind, as he always does (gonna be in trouble in bigger meets). He has a lot of potential - untapped heretofore
The most impressive race by far (the team race)
The men's 4 X 400 with 5 teams having a chance to win (one, Oregon, not in the 4 X 4) One of the best finishes to a track meet ever (39 years of coaching/competing).
How about the 17 year old Triple Jumper, Clay, with an American Junior Record. Not good enough for you?
Dick, go have an orange juice and a smile, and STFU.

Let's not forget that Wheating is a guy who had a PR of 1:50 2 years ago. His development has been remarkable.
I like kyle perry's performance.
sure, it was a bit weaker event
sure, the time wasn't a meet record
but he did win by more than Rupp did in his two races combined
he ran like a man
oh yeah, and an 11 second PR from on the weekend. he has improved 27 seconds in the steeple this year and still has USA's to cut more off.
I know everyone hates the little guy but Perry's steeple when compared to the rest of the field was the most impressive. he literally ran them into the ground.
OK, I know that this is letsRUN.com, and that very few people care about anything other than the distance events. But without a doubt the most impressive NCAA win was in the triple jump. Not only did Will Claye jump 56-6.75, he did it as an untrue freshman ... he's supposed to still be in high school; he started college a semester early. So all you guys can have a circle jerk about the distance races, but you'll be wrong. The triple jump was the most impressive win going away.
most impressive was Barringer. only meet record I saw, though there may have been more I didn't hear about
most surprising was Perry. the T&F news form chart picked him 8th. biggest upset of the meet.
the greatest individual accomplishment goes to Rupp for getting 6 titles in one year! thats just ridiculous.
G-fernandez gets some credit, but a little less in my mind since centro got hurt and he was the one who had the wheels to get around fernandez. still great as a true freshman.

As the majority of this country's ethnic heritage is of Irish (and Scottish) decent, I would not claim Irish to be minorities. I get your point though.
How could wheatings performance be the most impressive? He was a HUGE favorite. Just because he bitched about being sick and injured doesn't mean other people didn't have issues. Hell, I would even say everett's performance was more impressive than wheating. He hammered from the front and almost beat a whining wheating.
women - danette doetzel
men - german fernandez

I'm sorry, but Geena Gall's 800 has to be considered better than that. Also, even though Barringer might have had the best athletic performance, I'm almost not phased by her stellar races anymore becuase I've come to expect them.
thats true. wheating was predicted to win by most of you...
in fact here is who won what, and how many lets runners predicted it.
(i'm only doing what i have, so sorry i dont have a long jump or triple stat)
mens 400- 0.5% picked Borlee. that means 3 of you picked him Surprise!
mens 800- 78.6% picked wheating, and 20 % picked everett... no surprise there, 485 of 620 picked wheating
mens 1500- 51 % picked centro. bad call, another 40% picked german. german had 80% of the votes after centro.
mens steeple- 4% picked perry. that means 25 of you got that right (and those 25 surely had morse top 3 so this whole top 3 was a mess.
mens 5k- 93% picked rupp. good call. I may never pick against him again. (actually now that he faces a better opponent I may)
mens 10k- 82% picked Rupp. the other 18 must have thought he was human.
On the Womens side, the most voted athlete won in every category, except the 10k where lisa koll died.
womens 800- 58% picekd gall and 25% picked wright (who finished 5th)
womens 1500 could have gone to anyone.... a great field. still 75% of letsrun voters got it right with kuijken
womens steeple... who would vote against jenny b? no one should, one one did. 100% of the votes
womens 5k- Bizzarri had 47% of the votes and blood had 37. they went 1-2. pretty close to expected
womens 10k. 99% picked koll, who died, and 0.1% picked danette doetzel
it is a race that has fallen through the conversational cracks... but danette doetzel in the womens 10k was what everyone least expected to see.
biggest upstes=
#1 doetzel 0.1%
#2 borlee 0.2%
#3 perry 4%
everyone else was pretty much the favorite
most impressive and most surprising are 2 different things... but yeah, doetzel gets the most surprising award for women, borlee for men.
for most impressive though, it has to be barringers meet record. ridiculous. she wouldn't have been last in the mens steeple final if you look and see.

...but still, there\'s no such thing as Hispanic-Whites. You know who made that up? Hispanics who wanted to be white.
I\'m half \"Native\" Mexican, 1/4 British and 1/4 Italian. I prefer to thin of myself as an American of multiple national origins. It looks like, in your myopic opinion, that I can\'t think of myself as part white.
What should I tell my British grandmother and Italian grandfather? That they are white but I am not? I know my grandmother say \"Only ignorant Americans think they are pure white. They are all a mix of something else. They are just to bigoted to admit it.\"
