I lived in NC when he was in HS, and I was duly impressed by the times he was dropping back then. But he did himself no favors at all going to NC Central for college. Of course, he might not have been able to go anywhere else. I understand his grades were pretty bad. Hopefully he has himself a REAL coach now.

He could have gone to St. Aug's - also close by and there's damn sure some good coaches there. Or Delaware State which has put out some good 800 runners over the years.

I'm not excited.

The US doesn't need any more big bulky failed sprinters running the 800. This is why the US can't compete on the world scene at the 800.... so many of our runners are guys who couldn't hack it in the 400 so they "move up" and attempt to run the 800 like a 400 (going out fast and dying, hoping no one catches them in the final stretch). Guys like Karjuan Williams can occasionally be dragged through a fast race, but they fail miserably at championship races, they have no endurance to make it through the rounds. Wait until US nationals. Karjuan will make it to the semi-finals and then come crawling home in a 1:50.

Do you think Williams or Johnathan Johnson can even FINISH a 1500? Hell, I bet they would struggle to run 2:22 in the 1000!

We need more 800/1500 dudes like Wheating. Speed and ENDURANCE.... only way to be competitive at the 800.

Which one was Christian Smith again? The tall one? Or the fat one? Or the dirty-looking one?

He could fit into either tall or dirty looking.

And I think our team this year is KD, Wheating, and Symmonds, not in any order.

Karjuan ran a 4:22 or 24 1600 in high school in Louisiana the same year he ran 1:50

Great run by Karjuan. He is working with a new coach this year, Andrew Allden, and is doing more aerobic training for the first time ever. It seems to be working quite well. So I'm not sure that your "failed sprinter" model is necessarily true. Give KW through the end of the season and lets see what he does at USA's. Nice job KW and AA.

You're as wrong as wrong could possibly be. Karjuan is a true 4/8 guy who can run a decent 2 and a decent 1500. He did run 4:22 in HS in Louisiana (as a junior) and has also split 46 on 4x4 relays. Wheating, Symmonds, and Webb are not the measuring sticks in which all US American 800 guys should be compared against. If anything...Johnny Gray and KD are the kings of the 8 in the US. Neither has been dethroned imho.

Please remember who the last international medal winner was for the United States in 800m me, my good friend David "The Dream Snatcher" Krummenacker.

I disagree, I think the Americans won't be able to do anything due to only running strategical races, It's great Nick Symmonds can run a 1:46 but in competitions with fast 1:43 Africans I think he would just get smoked. so we need a fast qualifying race to test who can run fast, because running a fast last 200 doesn't do much if you're 4 seconds back on the field

The truth is I believe that Karjuan is doing

what him and his coach think is best for him. That's the reason for having a coach. Now the Men 800 meter outdoor world record of 1:41 was not acheived by running with the pack. The whole objective for most if not all athletes is to break the world record in their event(s). Karjuan go far it and do it, so that you have no regrets. Also, it is good that there are more Americans running faster from the beginning in the 800, it is only to going to make them work harder to run faster and stronger. That's what it's going take to win the gold.
