Want to make money as a cross country runner? Move to Kenya and get a job with the national police, the post office, or the army. As far as I know, those are the only "professional" XC athletes. Everyone else takes to the track or the roads to score most of their running income. Cross country is regarded as strength training for track in the rest of the world, not as a profession.
It definitely possible to make a living running cross country! However, it is just like track and you have to run in Europe. There are many races all winter long where it is possible to not only get prize money but appearance fees as well.
