WOW! What a day!
Where's that guy talking about the US finishing last now? Eh? Eh?
Not a perfect game but one of the best the US has played in a while. ...here comes Spain...
unfricken believable... let's just make it respectable against spain

You just proved my point. They earn the right to play in the Confederations Cup and then embarrass themselves and the region.
A real man would come on here and admit that he was wrong.
The ultimate in further confusing their supporters. Spanked by the best in the world, pull it together for a good team coming off 2 grueling games against same teams, rewarded by now playing Spain. The game against Spain will show who they truly are.
I think we can get third. It'll be a miracle if Spain and Brazil don't win in the semis, (though we did just witness a miracle, didn't we?) so it'll be us against South Africa for the bronze medals... that would be a big result for us.
I think Italy is aging ungracefully. I expect there will be big changes in favor of younger Italians in the team at the WC.
We tend to sort of "back in" to the knockout stages sometimes, but in 94 and 02 we played respectable against Brazil, then beat Mexico and played respectable against Germany, I hope we can give Spain a run for a while at the very least.
Just watched the game, to be blunt the US just got very lucky to advance in this group. I was hoping more from Egypt especially after beating Italy but they weren't in it today. I don't think anyone can disagree when I say that Spain, whom are in a completely different league compared to everyone else right now, won't have they're hands completely full.
MLS is crap, I've got to say it. I'd say it's about the equivalent to the second German league. No chance that guys like Donovan could even play in the Bundesliga. US soccer players need to play more in Europe where the actual competition is. Qualifying for the World Cup is no big deal if you're in the easiest continent, excluding Oceania. Going down 2-0 against El Salvador, regardless of their turn around, come on.
This was an exciting game, but lets not pretend it means something that it doesn't. Egypt played us terribly. We had so much time on the ball it was ridiculous.
I'm here to eat my words - Egypt played scared and US was aggressively taking advantage. A miracle to have advanced, but a much better effort from much of the US. Why not that effort more often?
Dempsey may be better at Forward than mid - put him and Altidore out front with Feilhaber, Bradley, Clark and Donovan as the mids. Dempsey is just getting stripped too often.
Luck was with the US today and everybody knows it. They got blown out by Italy, Brazil, and then beat Egypt (who the hell is Egypt) and by a miracle make it to the next round. Yes they played well for one game, but I wouldn't be doing backflips just yet. If they beat Spain, then yes We can do backflips.
We all know luck was involved. It was, but it wasn't at the same time...lots of teams go into game 3 of the tournament without control of their own destiny. If we had won first then lost second and got in by GDiff, what's the difference. We were the second best team in the group based on the rules for ranking. Let's all be happy we pulled off a miracle!
There are things to work on, yes, but lets hope Bradley uses these two extra games we just bought to try some new things / new players and use the experience to get us better for the next round of qualifiers. This is a great opportunity.
Besides, Spain's long long long long long long long long history of blowing it in the knockout round of tournaments could continue! They won Euro 2008 but that still makes it 1 against like 10 times they crap their pants in the first knockout game! You never know!
I choose to be upbeat about this because of how well Egypt handled Italy and how well we handled Egypt. If we can play like this from now on we'll do much better.

You're right, MLS is no big deal compared to European leagues. One of the problems with US internationals though is that they go and make the team in some Premier League team or other Euro league, but then most of them wind up sitting the bench all year. At least the guys in MLS get to play. I half wonder if the USA should consider taking a few of the best Americans in MLS who actually play in favor of some of the lesser guys who sit European benches. Not necessarily drop any of nat. team starters, but some of the guys who are usually subs. I'd rather have a 75th minute sub with the game on the line be someone who has played 30 games this year, not someone who has played 3.
Holy crap! How in the world did this happen? In span of 48 hours the US goes from being on the verge of one of its most humiliating elimnations to now having its most high profile matchups since the 2002 quarterfinal match with Germany.

I can't believe it either, but I'll take it.
I'm still in shock!!! Before the game I gave them an impossible chance. Boy, was I wrong. We played well against Italy.. Once we got the red cards we were toast! We got demolished and was embarrassed by Brazil. This Egypt team is good.. They barely lost to Brazil, and took down Italy. I don't know how in the hell this happened but I was screaming my ass off when Dempsey scored on that header!
After today I believe anything can happen now!! Let's bring on the Spaniards!!
It would not be surprising for a team like the US to stop Spain's winning streak. That is the kind of unpredictable things that happen in international soccer.
I didn't know this many people gave a shit about soccer.
Spain 4
US 1

That's because a lot of runner's started off playing Soccer.
p.s. I still can't believe what happened today!
Soccer is track running with a ball in front of it.
Seriously, if you are only 19 you have only known a US team that has qualified for the World Cup. Before 1990 the last time the US qualified was 1950. In the 70s the US was more worried about beating Honduras and Iceland.
The US lost to Spain last year 2-0.
