Barringer/Willard/Rowbury--Who will be the better 1500 meter runner this year/career?
I say Rowbury still for both the year and career. She just needs to get some more races in. I look forward to watching all 3 in the years to come.

Rowbury went for it at Pre, running at sub 4 pace in her season debut. That was a tall order given the field and unfortunately she paid for it in the last lap. I give her tremendous credit for executing such a bold race plan.
I agree that it would have been better for her to get a race or two in before towing the line with such an elite bunch.
Barringer surprised the hell out of me. Her reaction as the clock showed her time was priceless. Good on her!
Great stuff.
Hasay, she is several seconds ahead of Barringer when Barringer was her age.

Improvement isn't always linear you know?
Hasay is burned out
Doesn't matter, the future for each of them to have the highest success on the world stage is in the 5000 and/or 10,000.
all three should focus on the 1500m. could be a u.s medal sweep in '12
ultimate prs:
barringer - sub 3:50
rowbury - 3:52
willard - 3:55
What the hell are you smoking?
Hasay has trained with many more miles than Barringer did in high school. Jenny rarely ran over 40 mpw in hs. She is probably six years away from her ultimate potential and there can be a lot of improvement over that time period. JB is the present and future face of women's distance running in the U.S. from 1500m to 5000m with her best event the steeple thrown in!
You are absolutely right. I don't even know if Jenny got to that many miles in high school. Jordan never ceases to amaze me but I don't think she will be making huge drops over the next season. We will see soon.
Laurynne Chetelat is the future of USA distance running, not Jordan Hasay
Barringer already has the third fastest 1500 by an American. It's more debatable whether the other two will ever match the time Barringer just ran.
What's downright scary here is that because of the timing of the NCAAs versus Pre Classic, she probably just came down from altitude AND WASN'T EVEN READY TO RACE YET! Just imagine what that kick might have been if she'd had a couple of quick workouts at sea level to get her some leg speed (and this is only slightly tongue-in-cheek).
Forget about the SC and bring home the gold in the 1500.
willard & barringer = coe & ovett
please race each other often--we need some great entertainment like those brits gave us 30 years ago.
how about this: in three years, barringer becomes first american woman to break 14:40 5k
i say willard's got the most potential in the 1500m. rowbury second. willard's got that great speed--she should develop a kick like fermin cacho.
willard=speed
rowbury=speed/strength
barringer=strength
lokking at how barringer kicked on the end i think your going to have to give her some credit for speed.
so you want them to race one time in 10 years outside of the olympics?

she can break 1440 right now. she probably won't get in the race to do it this year but there is no doubt she could do it in the right race. she is the top american female runner right now in 1500m, 3k st, and 5000m. i would even suspect she could hang with shalane through a 10k.
she could break 14:30 right now. easily.

wrong they should avoid the 5 and 10k for the same reason goucher moved to the marathon because those events have t. dibaba and defar who are probably the best at 1500, 5 and 10k, but seem to have no interest in the 1500.
i think barringer and willard can go 9:05 - 9:10 for the steeple and all 3 rowbury, barringer and willard can go 3:56 - 3:59 eventually for 1500 (and wurth can break 4 for 1500 as well in my opinion).
here is the problem with the 5 and 10k i think barringer can maybe in a few years run about 14:20, but she would still lose to dibaba and defar, lets say she could even exceed my optimistic expectations and run 14:10 pace for 11 and a half laps then they would still need to do at least a 56-57 last 400 to beat those 2.
the usa women are doing very well i think they are number 1 country in the world at 1500 and since in the last 3 years besides barringer only 2 woman (jamal and burka) have gone sub 4 for 1500 and the usa has 4 runners at 3:59, 4:00, 4:01 and another at 4:01. 2 medals in the 1500 are very realistic, and i think a silver and bronze in the steeple is very possible.
sure the usa woman could possibly like goucher and flanagan get a medal at 5 and 10k, but those distances it will be a lot harder besides defar and t. dibaba, abeylegesse, linet masai and a seemingly endless number of up and coming kenyan and ethiopians.
You beat me to it! How could these guys keep avoiding each other in such a small country? It took a lot of work and was pathetic. Winning streaks by ducking competition, they could both had been even better if they raced each other.Same with these ladies, great to see it here!
