You're wasting your time and ours.

I agree.
This is let's run.
Anna Willard should be on the front page more distinctly (and not just a small mention at the end).
calm down there guy.
lets not lie to ourselves, we know the truth.
the truth is that sprinting is more exciting to watch.
I disagree wholeheartedly on this issue
I'm a distance guy. I love distance races and check basically only distance results. However, some of the sprint races are great races and stories. I was excited with Tyson Gay's 19.58. The women's 5k bored me to death. There was no race there, a bunch of ladies strung out around the track. Men's 5k was fantastic as was the women's 8 and men's 15. Seeing Tyson Gay's 19.58 though, very cool.

Not really. Whenever I see a sprinter race I think to myself, oh wow, you just ran 10 seconds, I mean you completely went insane and freaked out for those 10 seconds, but it was only 10 seconds, whatever.
World records aside, I agree that sprinting and field events should be left off letsrun. At least it is my opinion that those things are dumb. I'd rather read a race recap from somebody's local 5k than anything about Baylor's 4 x 400.
Likewise, I believe that anything posted about the female side of sport should be accompanied by photos. Otherwise, that stuff could be left off the page as well.
That's just my 2 cents; I know there will be other, less valid, opinions.
because watching a 30 minute 10k race on a track is much more fun
Speak for yourself. Those of use who are students of the sport appreciate all aspects of it. It's just a shame the field events get no coverage. If a great 100m or 200m cannot get you excited (say...a 19.58 by Tyson Gay!!), then I can't help you; you're just boring.
well here are my 2 cents.................to hell with your f*cking views.
in the real world there penis envy, and in the running world there's speed envy.
skinny white boys are just jealous because the black guys get the media attention.
that about sums it up.
...I care.
Field events should get more coverage.
Stephanie Brown-Trafton deserves coverage for her GOLD medal and great records.
A comprehensive clarification:
- More coverage of all distance events.
- Please, cease all coverage of sprint events.
- Only rudimentary updates of male field events.
- More coverage of the female field events. (They are hot).
- Coverage of any female fans flashing in the stands. This may never happen, but if it does, for Christ sakes, I want a full and detailed report! Podcast that shit if you have to, whatever that means.
the sprints, hurdles, shot put, dec, lj, pv is where we get our wc outdoor and oly medals from. the u.s. sucks at the distances.
Since I am an 800m guy I fall in the middle (although I have run 3 marathons as well).
I vote for keeping the sprints up. In other words celebrate the sport of track and field-- all of it you, you distance luddites.
You people at least need more balance in your lives, and possibly need to give up the chip on your shoulder from someone other than your focus getting more attention.
This site sells ads, and a reasonable diversity of content that most people have at least a passing interest in will draw more clicks and more revenue.
Trackshark is very sprint focused, but they still talk distance once in a while because it is all related and of interest. The cycling websites post news on the grand tours as well as mountain biking and track results. That's just good business.
If you want a site that is to distance running what slowtwitch is to triathlons, make it yourself.
I myself could do with less coverage of cycling just because it involves drugs, and about British sprinters who once did drugs.
As far as field events go, Icahn is another one of those outdoor stadiums(stadia) where the field events pretty much come and go without anyone noticing. The pole vault and long jump where both situated in spots where the fans in the main stands weren't going to see them very well. I should think there could be a better arrangement.
All you have to do is look at all the posts from letsrun posters in the last couple of days about Gay, Wariner, Felix and so on. Compare the total posts about Wariner with just about ANY US distance runner except maybe Webb. That's all you have to know about whether there should be coverage of sprints and hurdles.
When all US distance "athletes" (over 1500m) combined win half as many medals (before the next ice age) as Wariner or Felix have alone, distance fans will have something to talk about.
Until then, shut up and watch the real athletes.

Real athletes don't strut around like they're hot shit for 12 minutes, false start 3 times, and then only actually run for 10 short seconds. And to top it all off, after the race, they dance around and give incomprehensible mumble mouth interviews.
