Great sign for World Championships! Way to be tough, Dan!
he passed the half marathon in 1:07:02, he was probably just using it as a tempo run.
no, he was going for the win. didn't quite turn out the way he hoped. I agree - why would he run a marathon so close to the world championships? USATF should not allow it, actually.
Does Dan not care about Worlds? I don't know why he is even doing it in the first place, since he intended on running a marathon 12 weeks before? Maybe he is getting a bonus for making a world team? Dan had a great month with Bloomsday 12k and a USA 25k win and shouldn't have added in a marathon. Thats just dumb!
Dan and I have been in contact prior to SD and he was not using SD as a tempo run..must have been a bad day for him. He will be fine for Worlds. He has raced alot and may have just been exhausted.
Nate,
I respect your opinion and I understand that you are sticking up for a friend but Dan is uncoachable. His race schedule is consistently stupid. Last year he dnf'd in his only marathon (Twin Cities) because he raced way too much in the preceding 2 months. This drop out at RNR may be a blessing. Now Dan needs to train for the WC with no racing over the next 3 months. Do you believe he has this kind of discipline? I don't.
well I cant speak for Dan but as his teammate I respect his willingness to consistently race. I would not race as often and until 16 Sept I cannot begin my racing due to my officer training..everyone is individual. Yes, I think he should just focus on preparation these next 3 months. If he will or will not is up to Dan. He will be fine come August.

I respect someone that can race with consistency more than someone that races consistently. It doesn't take ability to toe the line. Just sayin'.
Everyone, and I do mean EVERYONE, is entitled to at least 1 bad race out of 10. (I have used up my lifetime supply!)
Dan WILL be ready for the World Championships, and I believe that this DNF is a blessing in disguise, in many ways.

Browne's hamstring cramped up around mile 18. It was cool out but humid. Pretty much out of the race by mile 7 though as El Boumlili took the lead and no one gave any challenge.
And this coming from the king of DNFs. . .

Carlos Handler ran 2:06, nice...
Not to mention he closed the last five miles in a WR 20:55!

It is never humid in San Diego. Not real humidity, anyway.

Huh? It is often very humid in San Diego. What do you think fog is? It's just that it's not usually *hot* and humid in San Diego, it's usually just either one or the other, unlike Houston or New Orleans. Humidity is simply moisture content in the air. And even if it's 60s and high humidity, your body can't cool correctly because the sweat can't evaporate.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
