i agree, it looks more and more like webb was a doper.
we know he takes drugs for his hair, why not for his running?

He boasted in an interview in 2007 about his poor diet. Eerily, as if cursed, he never ran well again.
Bill Rogers ate Pizza , majonassie , and m&m's......togather !
Bill Rodgers never ran 3:46! Maybe he would have run sub 2:08 if he'd mixed in a salad once in a while.
Of course, back in Boston Billy's day, there was no such thing as "low fat" food or "low carb" food, in fact carbs were considered a good thing by people who weren't even marathoners, and the magazines were full of stories about Bill Rodgers eating mayonnaise on pizza, or Steve Scott drinking eleven beers the night before a big race. God, I miss The Runner magazine.
This theory makes no sense. Why wouldn't he have continued his drug regimen into 2008 so that he could make the US team and have a good showing in the Olympics. Then he really would have been set for life and wouldn't have to worry anymore. Sorry your crack-pot conspiracy theory does not hold water.
can your hair grow back?
Does anyone really believe Manzano will ever make either a WC or Olympic final. We all know that answer to that - NO!

I don't know, but his chances are a helluva lot better than Webb's.
I disagree with everyone talking about oh he is just training through and waiting to peak for later. In college after base training I could run 4:10 miles indoors with absolutely no workouts only strides after runs. At the end of the season I could run 3:48 1500's an improvement but we are not talking about 10 or more seconds. In my opinion after base training (especially for someone with as much speed as Webb) there is no reason to be running much worse than 5-6 seconds slower than your top performance of the year.
He didn't continue the drug regimen in 2008 because he would've been caught (Rashid Ramzi). Have you been paying attention lately.

Point well taken. In 2007, he ran 3:51 at Drake, and later 3:46. We'll see what he does at pre, but at this point in the season, 3:58/3:42 doesn't project to much in the way of success.
That assumes a normal training path. But we don't know WHY he's in this situation. If he had some nagging injury/illness problems earlier, there may be more improvement available by August. But he seems to be going BACKWARD, not just compared to the others that are improving, but also compared to the time he ran in the Kansas Relays. And THAT (unless there was panic in training--more overtraining--after the initial results) does not bode well going forward.
And maybe if you run 18 miles a day like BAA Billy you can eat pizza, mayo, all the beer you want & be thin as a rake. I am sure Webb is not running 18 a day, not even close.
Well, right now there are more than a half dozen US runners that have a better chance than Webb. Still, it does not take away from the fact than Manzano gives one absolutely no confidence he can compete with the worlds best.
Despite their great talent both Manzano and Webb don't seem consistent enough. You just know they are going to fold up in big international races. At least Webb has made a WC final.
Prefontaine will be a make or break race for him. Not just for this year but perhaps for his career.
anything in the 353-355 range is good for webb.
everyone please stop expecting him to run 350 or better everytime out. he isn't steve scott or spivey or ryan, he is alan webb.
and while many thought he had a horrible showing i was very satisfied with the fact that he STAYED on the track. very easy to give up and walk off it wasnt going your way - that would have been an ultimate sign that he's giving up, but he didn't
and as flynn said he felt flat all week. maybe he has just started some speed work and it took any pop he might have had out of his legs.
either way a finish at pre 3-5 seconds better than anything this year is an indicator he is moving in the right direction.

So, we should not expect him to run faster than he did as an 18 year old High Schooler? 3:53-3:55 is good? Again, slower than what he ran in HIGH SCHOOL? STFU idiot!
Hey, if he runs 3:53 that will be at least a little hopeful for what he might do at USA and WC.

It is people like you who place unrealistic standards on Webb. Let me know your pr and we'll track you for the next 2 years and everytime you run > 5 seconds off of that pr I'll be standing at the finish line and will promptly kick you in the nuts for being such a "failure."
Why are people so sure Manzano won't make a major final? Ok, so he didn't make a final in the WC after a long collegiate season, and then in his first Olympic games he didn't make the final either- so what? Webb didn't make his first Olympic final either.

First? 2004 will be Webb's only Olympic year. Considering the amount of talent and potential he has, that fact should be considered a huge disappointment by everyone with their eyes open.
