http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFFMoXyD6IsI don't know when this was filmed but to me this sums up a lot of what is going wrong with Webb right there. He seems like a college freshmen. Not sure of himself, who he is or who he should be. Trying to be something, but he's certainly not himself yet. Trying to prolong his high school experience with his buddy and his coach. The coordinated oversized football jerseys? Are you kidding me? Both of these guys have some growing up to do. The point is Webb has been labled (imho correctly so) as a severe head case. This guy just needs to figure himself out and change his perspective. Somehow he needs to mature. The fly pattern at the end was so immature and awkward it reminded me of that football scene on Wedding Crashers.
This probably sounds like a huge rip on Webb, and I guess in a way it is. It's not a personal attack on him because I don't think he is intentionally doing anything wrong or he is a bad person. I think he needs to somehow mature or get some perspective in order to become the runner he is capable of. Getting out of Dodge might be a great start. Training with a group of older and more mature and experienced (in terms of consistency) might be a great start. A sports psychologist might be a great start.
Getting rid of the Rocky posters and the barbell and squat rack might be a great start. Raw eggs and a rockyesque workout are not going to get you to where you need to be as a world class miler, especially when you've constantly struggled with weight.
WEBB, if you read this and there is a decent chance you might, make the needed changes man. You have the talent and the ability. WHAT YOU HAVE BEEN DOING IS NOT WORKING. Don't expect it to magically change suddenly. You need to make the changes! How can you ignore the success that the groups in Portland are having? This is your talent, it's not boxing, it's not football. You either have the desire or you don't. If you have the desire, make the decision to solve the problems. Why would you leave a stone unturned in your quest to be great? It's not a question of IF you can be great, but a question of WHY AREN'T you great right now. Forget all the hate and doubt and go do something about it.
