I guess you told yourself this last year too, that he'd get an Olympic medal. How did that work out?
I guess you'll be telling yourself it in a couple of years time too.

Still being coached by Raczko is absurd. Alan needs to move beyond HS. There are dozens of world class coaches out there that could figure out a way to get Alan back on track. And sometimes a simple change of scenery is half the solution (beyond new and better coaching). Webb is so talented and a hard worker (beyond some of his eating habits) that almost anyone could have coached him to a 3:46 mile. Not many people could have coached him to the times he has run lately (and yes, I mean that as an insult).
[Many people(including Warhurst) think Webb was in 3:48/9 shape his frosh X-C season when he was kicking ass on most of the country as an 18 year old in 5 mile and 10k x-c races (he had a bad nationals, but he displayed top 5 in the NCAA's ability in his conference[1st place] and regional meet [2nd to Boaz]. So he was a sub 3:50 type-guy off of raw talent. He went a little further with Raczko, but has also has had many, many, disappointing moments under him)
He is a professional that ran about this fast in an indoor mile in high school. I'm not ready to throw him under the bus yet, but don't act like this was a step in the right direction, or anything positive. He is a pro runner, running against a bunch of Americans, and couldn't muster up anything. This race sucked for him.
His other races have been OK. Not great, but at least shows he's got a shot of making the team.
Another point: The personal attacks are probably uncalled for. But, you don't need to be a good runner to criticize a runner. That's ridiculous. This is freaking sports. We're not going to all sit here and say how he had an okay race and wish him the best.
I hate to pile on here and I was holding out hope for Webb, but ...this was not good, not good at all. He was well, well out of it early on. Don't even be misled by the fact that he finished ahead of Lukezic. He didn't seem to have it at all.
Webb still looks overly muscular to me. I don't know what's going on, but I don't see him suddenly popping a good race anytime soon.
Hi everyone, Alan Webb here.
I am disgusted at the haters and these haters can't run half as fast as I can. The armchair critics don't know what true hard work is. I will re-group and try to run a world record. I am sure that my training plan is coming along nicely. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to enjoy a Big Mac with large fries and a chocolate milkshake after my hard race effort today. The time from my 1500m is irrelevant. I'll also eat a pizza after my McD's and that should set me up well for my usual 5 mile Sunday long run.
It might be age, I started going downhill at around 25 when I started losing my hair no less.
What Webb needs is to take a look in the mirror. Watch his American Record Mile, and look at him now. I know his eating habits are not great, but its more than that. It seems like hes been hitting the weight-room instead of the track, and its slowing him down. He's always been a compactly built runner, resembling Pre, but he has taken it overboard. That much mass simply cannot run a sub 3:50 mile.
As Marc Bloom wrote in his book, God on the Starting Line, "Webb's race is like a coronation. He somehow seems to fly above the mud." That was in high-school, when he was glided to a 3:53. Watching him run now is like watching a tutorial in how to dent the track by stomping. He needs to get his priorities straight, and that means focusing on running, not lifting.
Drop the chick, sorry Julia.
I have defended Allan Webb for God knows how long but i too now accept it ,he is done, sad but true.I rest my case Allan.
Scott and Spivey never had shit days like this. The guy is good but not in their class. They fought everyone they raced here and abroad. He looks scared when he toes the line. They looked confident. They dished out pain. He absorbs it.
Sorry but Scott ran a Webb at the '84 Olympics.
He even did the ridiculous burst to the front.
There is something to be said about coming through the college system. When Leo ran poorly, his confidence was not shattered. Everyone knew he would bounce back, train hard and run fast. Webb's psyche, on the other hand, is about as frail as a 13 year old pimply girl.
I figured before the race that if we saw the bloated, bulky Webb it wouldn't be a good day, but if we saw the slender but chiseled Webb he would tear it up.
Only the dumbest of the dumbasses contine to think this head case is going to be anything but the loser that he is.

Are you really dumb enough to be blaming his coach here?
He should be running those times in his sleep regardless of horrible coaching.
Hes got health issues going on. That's just flat out obvious.
Yeah, just like last year. Or was that an undisclosed injury? Or was it food poisoning? Or did he mistime his peak? Or did he break up with his girlfriend?
Hey, I got it. He's playing possum to set up his competition. Just like last year!
Get off the excused you pathetic Webb jock licker. The kid is a head case and the most over-rated runner in American history.

He might be the most over-rated American record holder in American history - which isn't the most damning title ever. And Jim Ryun was also an awful, terrible, lazy, evil man because he never won an olympic medal.
gold medal
you people keep saying rackzo coached him to 3:46/1:43 so he can't be all that bad...
bullcrap. webb's raw talent (evident by his hs performances) let him run 3:46/1:43 off perhaps less than ideal training
rackzo is responsible for the disaster that is the rest of webb's career (and it wouldnt' be a disaster if we didn't know what he is capable of)
in the end webb must not want to resurrect his career - otherwise he would get a new eff'ing coach!! how hard is that to see. even if he isn't a bad coach... why would you not try something completely new. at this point he has nothing to lose
S.Scott made the USA TEAM, MADE the OLYMPIC 1500 FINAL, took the LEAD the FINAL for a good long ways, maybe not the best tactics but he did it his way in the race with the most prestige, with the defending 1500 champ in the race. I say Scott should not be compared with Webb in most cases.

Webb ran his AR mile IN SPITE OF the coach, not because of him. More bad than good since the 2003/2004 breakouts, and a total waste of such obvious talent. Man needs a serious nutrition, and serious, world class coach. Webb is obviously one of the toughest head cases in American track history and a former HS coach at a backwater program is WAY above his head with this project. Its not too late, but you can't wait until next year. Alan, PLEASE...
Embarrassing.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
Move over Mark Coogan, Rojo and John Kellogg share their 3 favorite mile workouts
Mark Coogan says that if you could only do 3 workouts as a 1500m runner you should do these
Red Bull (who sponsors Mondo) calls Mondo the pole vaulting Usain Bolt. Is that a fair comparison?
