We'll see how he does at Nationals - that's about all anyone can say. Will Manzano hold form? Hope so. Webb's time isn't so bad as the fact that there are five yanks ahead of him in the Reebok race and drug cheat Lagat wasn't among them.

Ratzko must go. This is ridiculous.
I said it before and I will say it again , greedy agent , over raced ( agent and a coaching mistakes ) , Webb will have the once in awhile great race but his best is behind him. What did we learn ? Young talent do not get talked into "going pro" by agents who want the shoe contract dollars , racing to much for dollars , upgrade to a coach that understands international competition and long term athlete development.
"Due for" - yes.
"Going to have" - no.
He certainly looked like he'd exhausted his interest in the 1500m tonight at Reebok: Manzano 1st, 3:34; Webb third to last, 3:42.
i wonder what is going through webb's mind right now. i wonder if he is working too hard to allow his body time to rest and catch up with the training he is doing, or i wonder if the training he is doing isn't adequate for the fitness he is trying to achieve. i wonder if he use to dope. i wonder if it's his coach. i wonder if it's him. i wonder if he just has had a good couple weeks of training and today was a day where he just needed to rest instead of racing. who knows. doesn't bode well though.
Webb is no longer even on the top five US miler's list. Look at Jim Spiveys record.
Anyone else notice how bulky he looks. What has stood out is his lack of confidence. At the trials last year, Lagat always looked confident and ready to strike. Webb looked tight and scared something bad was getting ready to happen. His coach's experience ends at the high school level. Yes, change is needed NOW.

I'm not saying his coach is doing a bang up job, but he has had success with other elites.
Nikeya Green has run well, and Samia Akbar made her big breakthrough while running under Razcko and has run well for several years now.
So, it might not be working for Webb, but to dismiss his experience as only High School is absurd.
Hard to watch. Dick Diver moment. I don't expect LRC to pick Alan Webb to win another big race, ever. This moment screams out "End of the Webb Era" in a way that Trials last year didn't. He showed signs of life then, like he could surpass Lomong/Manzano/Lagat just be returning to his training old training. Yesterday, he looked worse than ever, just when he should be rounding into form -- as Lagat and Manzano clearly are. With so many faster guys 5-8 years younger than he is now, I'm afraid his time in the limelight is officially over.
I couldn't disagree more with the poster who said that this should be a warning to others not to go pro early. On the contrary, Webb took advantage of the few precious years a track star has to build a very nice nest egg. Success is very often fleeting in this sport, no matter what path you take. At Michigan he seemed more likely to be headed for a Jeff Nelson burnout than an American mile record. Instead, he went pro, had a couple of dream seasons, and earned a couple of million dollars while he could.
But he has a serious nutrition problem it appears. Just looking at how sculpted and vascular he was in 2004 when he ran Pre and look invincible. What a huge difference. Guy has been eating chinese and ice cream in suburban Virginia for way too long.

Exactly. Look at the picture in the following link and you will see that Webb doesn't even look like the same person:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Webb_at_hayward.jpgWebb's heart is not in this anymore. He's 26 and he's been in the spotlight for going on ten years. It seems like he's ready for something else - the DC night life.
In a way, Ritz is also suffering the same fate. He is also running good times - but a good 5 minutes behind the competitive marathoners.
Perhaps - gulp - the Ritz-Webb era is coming to a close.
2:10 Ritz is no where comparable to current Webb.
hey man what gives the right to say "and drug cheat Lagat wasn't among them" are the provider? f..ck face..

My own opinion of Alan is that he has completely exhausted his interest in the mile, its become quite frustrating for him.
He should try 5k and 10k, or even the 3k.
Maybe he just needs a change of scenery. Anyway, I think the guy still is a major talent and I hope he turns things around for the better.
Man. Why are there so many dudes here trying to suck AW dick?
AW needs to go into gay porn; there is like a "mile" long line of dudes eager to stick his tube steak in there mouth on these boards.
You white people crack me up with all your homosexual tendencies.

Is this photo your "jerk-off" material?
How would staying in school have protected Webb from over-racing? Especially in light of Rupp thinking about tripling at Nats. Certainly Doesn't appear as if anyone is thinking about not over-racing a prodigy there.
3:42...
?????????? how many guys could run faster than that this year alone????????
26 is old enough for a comeback...but it will only last a year or two. By the time he's 30 he's done. At the rate he's going he's done now.
i will coach alan and i know he will be in better shape than 2007. don't doubt my track record..i got proof and i am not a "professional" coach..
