And mine.
Your assertion that women's running is "pretty bland" has no more "quantitative" value than an assertion that they are classy, poised, and intelligent.
And I did not call a 15:45 5k world class and I never would. While I have great admiration for the top tier of women's running, and even those are close and gaining, I agree that there are women, like the 2:36 marathoners out there, who are only pretending that they are anywhere near world class.
Interesting sampling.
Watching the Pac Ten title meet, it was really clear that the Oregon men and women cared about each other teamwise.
I think that is pretty cool.
When this old schooler was in college, generally attractive women were not in athletics in great numbers yet. Sad but true for us boys at this time. And the women's team was required to train much earlier than the men's team. They weren't allowed on the track when we men were there. It was never said; they were just never there. There were a few cuties, but most of the women were cute to average to homely in looks and most of the mens team didn't date women on the women's team; preferring the hotter women of the general campus population. Mostly the women runners would not cross the line to come and get to know the men on the men's team. A few brave girls crossed the line and ended up with wedding rings.
I guess I don't find women's running interesting to this day, because we were segregated, and because, well, their races were so much slower. Even though I was a middle distance runner, the only women's running I found interesting was the sprints.
Except for when I went to Sweden and Denmark, then I found All the women's races interesting. ;-)

Actually you are right, I am as guilty as the aforementioned poster for being contradictory.
I hope my point was somewhat read between the lines? I should probably have stated, "pretty bland" is a consensus on opinion, that has validity-as previous posts have exclaimed womens racing as-not-so entertaining. And b) the comment regarding intelligent, poised, etc etc, has absolutely no prior suggestion or 'quantitative' evidence, and must be 'asserted' as nonsense.
yes, I'm a fan of the sport.
It is kind of sad that some of the people on these forums are still living with the old and outdated ideas of many decades ago... no wonder that also explains all the racism on here.
I think male distance runners are just bitter and insecure people... they have to find a way to hate on other people working hard because they themselves don't get enough love because let's face it, hardly anyone cares about distance running.
I follow women's running when something cool happens like a big race or a record. But besides that, I'm mostly into men's running if for no other reason than that I can relate a little more easily to their times. I'm not all that good at understanding the women's times.
PS. Women are slower than men, right?
PPS. Didn't that filly win the Preakness?

A good percentage of women runners are nuts. I care about them, but a good percentage of them are nuts.
Between their eating disorders, their crying jags, their egocentricity, their jealousies, their injuries, and their sensitivities, they will drive a coach out of his low estrogen mind.
Of course, there are exceptions to the general trend of women runners being nuts. And these are the women runners who are psychos.
As opposed to some male distance runners who come anonymously on to a forum to whine and cry about their jealousies, injuries, and act superior to runners slower than them (egocentricity)?
Ohhhh the irony...
At one point I was on a very large urban running team, with men and women, about 300 members, maybe 100 of whom we'd see on a regular basis. I'd only say that two of them were certifiably insane, and they were both guys.
You're talking about irony, when you're a woman whining about our whining?
Woah.
Yes
Yes
Yes, I actually find women's running the most enjoyable women's sport to watch. Every other woman’s sport is pretty darn boring with the exception of volleyball. Some of those women can really move, and most of the top female runners are way better than the descent level college guys. Just how many men can run a sub 15 minute 5k or a sub 2:20 marathon, or a sub 10.47 100m? Sure there are a few that can but there are many, many more that can't.
But if you watch the equivalent men's race, they will ALL be under 15... the women's race is like watching high school boys. Sure, the DYE-hard (sic) fan will enjoy it, but a real fan of the sport is looking for the fastest race out there. It's the mere definition of the sport.

I do not understand this. You assume that everyone who prefers men\'s running over that of women does so out of sexism.
Did you ever stop to think that some (myself included) prefer men\'s running simply because males are faster?
It\'s the same reason that I prefer watching professionals over masters runners; the faster the running, the more entertaining it is.
By your logic, unless you care about all age levels equally, you are discriminating by age.
Interesting that you assume I am a woman because of the post... ever thought a male distance runner may disagree with you? Notice the key word "some"...
You are irrelevant ... and a sloth as well. If you actually think
any men's sport is more important then any women's sport ...
say so ... and We will vote you off of this website.

....Pleeeezzze.
It's also interesting that in track and field there are some runners making more than their male counterparts...
Kara Goucher is rapidly becoming the face of American distance running, Allyson Felix gets paid a huge amount (perhaps the most of any track athlete)... Jordan Hasay is the face of American high school distance running, etc.
