She's got the talent, but her last 2 races were not remarkable. She just picked up a good coach again, but they are just getting started it seems.
So I guess no, not this time.... but later seems likely...
Difficult to say... her 14:47 for 2nd at Boston indoors was not as fast as some would have expected (even if it was a US indoor record) and her 32:25 for 4th place in that 10k in Puerto Rico didn't look like a sign of record breaking potential (in the following few months at least).
On the other hand, there isn't a huge gap between that 14:47 and her existing 14:44 outdoor record, so if her training has been going well, then perhaps she can...
My guess 14:42-14:43 if everything is going right for her. High winds reported suggest that won't be today.
...I guess the answer would be a big NO.
Man, definitely an off race for Shalane!
what we learned today and already knew was:
Shalane is a great american runner, who can't compete with the best africans (and they are getting deeper every year)
She should have stayed with Cook.

It's too late now.
Not all the best africans ran well today either... Ejegayehu Dibaba ran a 14:36 last year (during a race where she spent part of the time helping pace her sister to a WR), but couldn't break 15 today.
However it looks like race winner Aheza Kiros ran a PB, so at least someone will be happy with their race today.
It's only one race, folks.

How'd she do in Beijing?
You idiot. Put some cheese on your bagel and think of another approach.
