Title IX is a program that was created with the best of intentions, but as with a lot of government intervention, it isn't a practical solution to the problem. Women should have an equal opportunity to compete as do men, but this should not be at the expense of men. It is dependent on the circumstances, but Title IX does create instances where it is much easier for women to get a scholarship than men. In the case of my school, women's track is heavily funded to compensate for football, so women receive the 12.5 scholarship max, while the men receive only 6.5. The women's team is much worse than the men's team, which creates the perception it is easier to get a scholarship for women since the quality of female athletes is lower than that of the male athletes. I think the best overall solution for equality is to provide equal funding between teams (men's and women's track for example). Teams that do not have a reasonable alternative for the other gender (women's volleyball or men's football) should be exempt since there is no discrimination, simply a lack of an alternative. Just my opinion. Take it for what its worth.
