I'm training about 80-90 a week, which is not a ton and is manageable within my schedule--doesn't take too much time away from the family; but my problem is I can't go for a run, get it in the books, and let it go. I am always thinking about my next run, analyzing my log, pondering workouts, etc.
My wife will be saying something about our kids, or house, and I'm gazing out the window thinking about running. How do I shut it off? I want to train and be mildly competitive, but it seems to have taken over my mind and I'd like to get the run in and shut the running valve off.
Anyone else experience this? Any advice?
When you're married with kids, you'd better find the right balance in your life, or your wife will LET you only think about running...oh and paying child support and not seeing your kids very often. You are CORRECT to say you are obsessed. Find a way to stop being, or your wife will be able to tell you if you the neighbor's Wang Chung is bigger or smaller than yours.
Family first -- ALWAYS -- and then stuff for you. Family first doesn't mean the absence of things for you, and in fact doing things for you benefits the family because it keeps you satisfied and allows you to keep your sense of identity which leads to being a better father and husband, BUT zoning out on the wife more than just VERY occasionally is a bad sign brother.
