I'm surprised no one is talking about this here. Congrats to Shelby Greany of Suffern: In just her first steeple race of the season Shelby Greany of Suffern, NY wins in 6:33.7 to shatter the national record! The previous record (6:35.63) was held by Marie Lawrence. Impressive.

That's fast! I believe she holds all the national class records as well. Also noteworthy is that apparently she had run the 800, 1,500 and 3,000 at her league meet last Thursday, then the 4x1-mile and the 4x800 at the Crusader Relays Saturday before her race on Monday. Leaves me wondering what she can run fresh.

i had the same thought before you posted the pictures...definitely lost weight, but she looks healthy. If anything, it just shows she is taking the sport more seriously and by taking better nutrition into consideration.
Yes, she lost weight but it looks like she needed to. She now looks healthy and strong. The apparent weight loss has served her well. I think her mentality is more serious now and her improvement proves it. Good for her!

Of course she lost weight, if you raced 10 times per week you would lose weight too.

it's more than pretty decent, it is very impressive, but one shouldn't just toss around the adjective "shattered". percents should always be used because breaking the marathon WR by 2 seconds would be a little different than breaking the 100m WR by 2 seconds

I'm so happy the steeple HSR is back in a NYer's hands. Shelby is quite the character too if you ever get the chance to meet her.
