I'm in almost the exact situation you are in. College freshman, just finished outdoors, and hoping to hold 90-95 mpw towards the end of the summer. I'm taking one week completely off right now, aside from lifting 3 days. Afterwards, maybe a week or 2 in the 50-60 range before starting to build the mileage back up. Good luck this summer!
That sounds about right. I'd suggest taking off 3-15 days depending on how fatigued one is. Obviously this should be more if someone was running through an injury or something. Start back slow the first week, then gradually build up mileage like always. Always keep the intensity under control and take ample recovery between medium-hard efforts. Train, don't strain!
I always tighten up and feel like crap when I take time off, so I usually take very little time completely off and just drastically lower my mileage instead.
