I agree that it's too bad that more information isn't readily available. To play devil's advocate, however, couldn't it be argued that this is an area where the track and field media outlets (e.g., LRC, Flo, Runnerspace, etc.) should be stepping into the void?

I agree, the running community should step up. Everyone bashes things like Twitter, but they would have been absolutely perfect in this situation.

Liam was 148.6 on the anchor, and passed Villanova's Dan Tully, but was unable to fight off a rally from Tully, and Nova got the win. Louisville racked up around 100 points on the first day, due to their strong field presence, but didn't have much to follow that.

I completely agree that these meets do a lousy job selling the team aspect of the competition. While there were great races (and great announcing), there was not much excitement built up over the team title. I heard scores maybe 2-3 times during the meet. While everyone was focused and excited during the 8, 4x8, 4, etc., there was no real sense of a coherent meet, just a few races put together on the track.

U. of Cincinatti had a strong showing with 84 pts (4th place) for a program about to be cut.

How did the 1500 play out? 3:41 for Liam in a conference championship is nasty. I think with his 146.00 penn relays split he is at least a dark horse to win the 1500 ncaa's.

I believe they are being defunded, not cut.

The Providence guy who finished last led through the first 700m. I am not completely sure about splits, but they were somewhere around 58, and 1:58. McCarthy then took over and led with Liam Boylan-Pett right behind until the final 100m, when Boylan-Pett kicked in for the win.

It was really intense at the end, no one knew what the scores were as the hammer, 4X4, and triple were all going on pretty much at the same time. They announced the score right after the 4X4, ND was down by 10.5 with two events to go (triple and hammer). Then everyone found out that ND went 1, 5 in the hammer with one of their seniors throwing a 18 feet PR to get the win. Louisville only got fourth in the hammer, so it came down to the triple. ND's triple jumper stepped up and placed fourth while Louisville's choked and only got 6th while their other one who was supposed to score got 9th. Basically ND stepped up big time on the second day while Louisville had a huge first day but couldn't quite get it done. It was by all definitions epic.

what the hell happened to Uconn? After winning indoors I figured they would do better then 6TH! 90% of their atheletes underperformed, some of them by a lot. It isn't so much disapointing as just weird.

I was there as a competitor for a school that was not in the hunt. Unfortunately it was raining for the entire day on Sunday. You didn't see teams sitting together and watching the meet as you normally would. Most everyone was huddled in a side building trying to stay dry or get dry. As someone said louisville scored more than 100 points on Saturday so it was not a neck and neck race. The triple jump was scored after the 4x400. 1500m splits were announced as 58.5, 1.58, 2.43 at 1100. It looked like providence's strategy was to make sure the pace was strong from the start. They had 5 guys in the field and 3 near the front early. LBP and McCarthy broke away at around 1200 and LBP took over in the last 100. I had his last 200 as 28. I think the exciting team race was tempered by the weather and the fact that no one saw it coming. I overheard some UND guys say that they thought the team was finishing 2nd just after the 5k, where UL scored big points with the win. When I asked my coach who won the meet afterwards he told me UL did so not a lot of people knew what was happening with the team score at the end of the meet.

I forgot to mention that the awards and team trophies were announced indoors after the meet ended. I don't know if they even announced the final team standings in the stadium. Also, this reminded me of a few years back at Big East indoors. UND scored 6 pts to 0 for UL in the 4x4 and won the meet by 2.5. That was 2007 I believe.

VERY dark

They redshirted a handful of their better athletes for the outdoor season, including rutt and gagnon among others. while this does not account for all the points, it does sort of ruin team morale. Imagine going into a conference meet when you were a team who is used to being in the hunt to a team that really had no shot to win.

The Big East Track meet used live wave cam technology -the first track meet anywhere to do so and the only collegiate conference to use it. You could have gone onto the Big East's website to see the track meet and get all the information you wanted.
