After watching the last half of today's races, I really feel like I will never see an American win Boston again, at least during my lifetime.

an american has won at both Chicago and London in the past few years.
Sir, you are repetitive.
"I will never see an American win Boston again"
"at least during my lifetime"
When the hell else would you see it if you claim that you will never see it?
Shorter and Rogers in their prime would do no better than Hall or Ritz would today. In fact I don't believe Rogers was as fast as Hall is today.
Americans might as well give up. No American will ever win any more major marathons.
I would stop labeling any American who runs a good time as 'the next great marathoner' or potential Boston winner. Hall didn't have a chance to win. Even if he was with Merga, he would have been outkicked.
I'm tired of hearing the hype built up for all of these guys, then watching them get their asses kicked by the Africans. Disappointment after disappointment after disappointment. Just let them run without any expectations. It'll be more fun to watch that way.
And whoever mentioned the stoic nature of the Africans post-race (even after a victory) in another thread was dead on.
Show some f***ing emotion.
Do you celebrate after doing your job well?
BTW, if they did celebrate, there would be quite a bit of (racially based) criticism (see, Usain Bolt, NFL receivers, sprinters in general).
I don't know about the first part of your statement, but Rodgers ran 2:09:27 (PR) in 1979, WINNING his 3rd Boston. This was 13 seconds faster than Hall's time today, although Ryan had a tough day with the headwind. Billy's times still look pretty damn good. Hall can run Boston faster next time (if there is a next?!); it takes 2 or 3 times to figure the course out, and he probably went out too fast. Still a great effort by Hall, though.
THIS JUST IN.
Never is a really long time.

Then please die as quikly as possible, so the rest of us can appreciate this great progress that these two athletes made today -- and keep rooting for an American to break through!
That's a little harsh. Why not just suggest that the OP gouge his eyes out?

Yes, I do. I have created several dances for when I do something well at work.
The fact taht we even had Americans in the mix is an imporvement over what we had a few years ago.
On another point, man did Sell get it handed to him today.
I don't see what the point of making the OP's statement is. Given the immense amount of variables and an inability to forecast the future, it's an absurd statement to make.
The U.S. has produced a 2:19:36 female marathon ( with a 2:21 for backup) within the past decade. If that's possible, a Boston victory by an American is certainly possible.

Does it involve the words 'gobble gobble'?

Do you have a terminal disease?

I found that very funny. Guess I'm going to have to get to work on my victory dance at the office.
This is garbage, Goucher could have won if she didnt lead the last 4 or 5 miles and hall let the pack get away. They both are relatively young runners and both got 3rd so saying that an American will never win is ludicrous.

I don't see what is wrong with getting your hopes up. It makes it more exciting. I almost wrote a piece this summer saying that I thought I'd never see an American born runner without recent African ancestry ever medal at 5k or 10k in the Olympics but still like to believe in the near impossible.
I actually think a third like Willis or Mottram or Hall today is possible in an Olympics. A win? Not likely.
Two words: Jordan Hasay
You heard it here first.
