I'm a college senior at a d3 school and I could race one last time, a 1500, this tuesday. I've been hurt for about three months starting in december, and I'm currently debating whether or not to run the race, as there is only so much embarrassment I'm willing to take. I've had a lot of injury issues in the past two years, which basically took me out all of junior year and from december until early march of this year. My PR's are in the 1500, 3k, and 5k are 4:07 (HS), 8:40 (indoor soph year), and 15:09 (freshman year). This past fall I was able to run 25:37 at franklin park in XC. I've been cross training a lot since the injury started in december in an effort to not lose too much fitness. My past 4 weeks have been 23, 35, 34, 47 and today I did a workout to try and get an idea of what kind of fitness I have.
The workout was 10x400 with 200 jog recovery (~75 seconds on average for the recovery). I went 72,78,73,74,73,73,71,70,69,68 with the last 4 in flats to make sure my body will be able to handle wearing flats if I run the race. The workout felt somewhat hard, but certainly not all out, and I'm guessing some of the difficulty was it being the first time I've run faster than 6 minute pace since november. My guess right now is I could run 4:20-4:25 for the 1500, but I'm really not sure. Any guesses on my fitness or advice on whether to run/not run would be most appreciated, thanks.
